It was a week or two after I had first met him, that I knew something was different about him, in a good way.
I thought about the boy from time to time, but I never thought I'd see him again, until the day at the café.

September 22 1988"Hi, can I have a regular Mocha please?" I told the cashier that worked at the café.
"Yes, that will be-" he started, pressing buttons on the machine "- two dollars and fifty cents please." he said nicely. I handed him the money. He grabbed a coffee cup and a marker.
"What's your name?" he asked with a smile.
"Tegan." I answered, he wrote it down, and told me it would be out in a minute or so.
I waited until I heard the name "Tegan!" be called out, then I went to grab my cup of coffee. I sat down at a booth by the window and gazed out it, looking at the scenery, taking little sips of my coffee.
"Well, hello, Mrs. Tegan Rowchel." I heard a voice say. I looked over to see River, the boy from the zoo, standing by the booth I was at. I smiled.
"Hello Mr. River Phoenix." I said playfully.
"Didn't expect to see you here, in fact I didn't know if it was for sure you until I saw the name on your cup." he said, while pointing to my coffee cup.
"Oh." I lightly laughed. "Would you like to sit?" I gestured to the open spot across from me. Even though I hardly know him, he's still very polite so I can't just be rude to him.
"If you don't mind." he said.
"Oh no, not at all!" I told him. He slid in the seat.
"So it seems like I did end up seeing you again." he said while smiling.
"Well obviously." I sarcastically said, emphasizing the joking part. He lightly laughed.
"I would offer to buy you a drink, but it seems like you already have one." he said.
"Yeah, but I can always buy you one." I said.
"No, that won't be necessary." he said politely.
"You talk all sweet and gentlemen like." I told him.
"Well I'd hope so, my Mother taught me to always me polite to beautiful ladies like yourself." he said.
"Thank you River." I said while slightly blushing. He nodded. It was silent after that, neither of us knowing what to say.
"So, how's Amelia." he asked, trying to make conversation.
"She's good thanks." I replied.
"Did she have fun at the zoo?" he asked again.
"For the most part, with some animals she completely adored them, but with others she got frustrated with because they didn't "speak human" according to her, and wouldn't talk to her." I said.
"I could tell that she was getting frustrated with those Tigers, the way that they would walk towards her then turn away as if she were a bad onion." he said, making me giggle.
"Bad onion?" I repeated while laughing.
"Yeah, all onions smell bad, but no one wants to go to a bad onion." at this point he was smiling like crazy.
"Gotcha." I nodded in understand meant. "Well it was nice seeing you again River but I must be heading home now before my Mom goes crazy wondering what's taking so long." I told him and apologized.
"No need to apologize, I totally understand." he said.
"Until next time?" I asked.
"Hopefully." he smiled, causing me to do as well. And with that I walked home, with River on my mind.
