Isn't Halloween supposed to be scary? Well, it was later on.

***

October 31st 1988

"Teegan! Teegan! Look what I am!" Amelia shouted when she ran up to my door step with her Mom.

It was Halloween, Amelia's favorite holiday. I was going to take her trick or treating in about an hour.

"Wow! You look beautiful!" I said, and she giggled. She was wearing a purple princess dress with a sparkly tiara.

"C'mon, let's go inside." I waved goodbye to my aunt, who is also Amelia's Mom, and we walked inside.

***

We walked outside my house and began our journey down the neighborhood.

We walked from house to house, gathering candy in her little plastic pumpkin. We saw all kinda of costumes from other kids. From monsters, to ghosts, to giant flowers.

Amelia got a little upset when she saw another girl had the same costume as her.

"Hey, Amelia." I said, she looked at me. "C'mon, let's go back home."

"But I don't wanna!" she pouted.

"We're not done, we're just going to get Aunties car, so we can go to another neighborhood." I told her, talking about my Mom. She nodded and we walked back to my house.

I got the keys from my Mom and slowly drives to a specific house. When I pulled into the driveway, I saw that their porch light wasn't on, meaning that they weren't giving out candy, but the lights inside were on.

I unbuckled Amelia from her seat, and she ran up to the door step, myself coming close behind. She reached up and rang the small door bell, waiting for an answer.

"Trick-or-treat!" Amelia exclaimed when River opened the door. He looked at me and smiled.

"I don't have any candy with me right now, but if you and Teegan would like to come inside, I might can find some." He said, crouching down to her level.

She looked at me for approval, knowing not to walk into someone's house who she doesn't know, in Rivers case, barley knows.

I nodded, and River held the door open for us. Awe walked inside to see the River was only one home.

"Where is everyone?" I asked, following River into the kitchen.

"Trick-or-treating." he responded. He looked inside his pantry and pulled out some candy and gave it to Amelia.

She squealed, taking the candy then gave River's legs a hug. She stepped back, looking at me and said "Aren't you going to give him one too?"

I smiled at her, then walked over to River, wrapping my arms around him. He returned the gesture.

I set my head on his shoulders and we swayed a little. I guess that he could sense that I was tired, because he started to run circles into my back.

The sound of Amelia pouring out her candy onto the table, broke us apart.

"Amelia." I groaned.

"She's fine." River said.

Amelia started to unwrap her candy and devoured it. It kinda scared me.

"We have to go in a while." I explained to him. Stepping back from him.

"That's okay, just stay for a little bit. I miss hanging out with you."
