Okay hi! It has been way way too long, and I apologize. I have been extremely busy with school and haven't gotten any time to just sit down and write. I'm going to be honest and say that I know this chapter probably isn't my best work but I really wanted to just post an update. Also, I know it isn't as long as it normally is. This is 1. because even though I managed to scrape some time together, it still wasn't enough and 2. the next part of this book requires a lot of detail and attention so I want to make sure I have proper time to sit down and write it. Anyways, enjoy! Next chapter hopefully will be soon, but don't count on it because as we head towards the end of the school year, it will only get busier but I will try my best!
Sage
"Sage?" I hear a faint voice talk to me, "Sage can you hear me? Why don't you try to open your eyes for me"
I try to open them, but I can't. They feel so heavy, almost like there are weights holding them down. It hurts to try to open them. I open my mouth to try and speak to them, but there is no such luck. My throat is desert dry, and I immediately start to cough.
With my eyes still closed, I feel someone rest a hand on the back of my body and slowly help me into a sitting position.
"Open your mouth again Sage" That same voice says, so I do.
My chapped lips part and I feel something like a straw enter my mouth. I close my lips again, and slowly suck on the straw, feeling water pour into my mouth a few seconds later.
But no matter how much water I drink, my mouth stays dry. It slowly gets better, but hardly.
"Try to open your eyes again for me Sage" The voice says again, "Do you know where you are?"
As I try to lift my eye-lids, I slowly shake my head no.
"Okay, that is fine. I'm going to tell you where you are okay?" The voice says again, and I nod slightly worried and scared.
"You're in the hospital. You came in with your friend Finn... do you know who Finn is?" He asks
I shake my head yes.
"Okay that's good." The voice continues, "You had severe injuries when you came in, and we had to do surgery on your right arm, and ribs. Are you in a lot of pain right now?"
I don't answer his question. My mind is running in circles trying to remember how I could have ended up in the hospital with all of these injuries. And even worse - how I am going to pay for this medical bill.
"I'm going to let Finn come in now. Just rest and keep working on opening those eyes okay? I know they are sore and swollen, but just keep trying" He says
I nod but I'm not sure if he was even looking at me because I hear pieces of paper rustling together and then a few seconds later, the door opens. I hear him and Finn exchange a few words, and then the door closes.
He doesn't say anything, but I know he's in the room. I hear his footsteps move towards me, until I hear him pull up a chair next to my bed and I assume sit in it. He reaches onto the bed and holds my hand.
I don't say anything, and I don't open my eyes. I don't even realize I have started to cry until I feel the tears stream down my face. I try to sob, but even that won't work because my throat is just so dry.
"I know" Finn whispers, his voice sounding completely broken, "I know"
He keeps me comforted, just holding my hand for the rest of the time that I cry. It is honestly the perfect thing I need right now. If someone tried to talk to me, I wouldn't know what to say or do and it would be even worse than it is right now.
