!!!!TRIGGER WARNING!!!!

!BIG BIG BIG TIME!

"Soooo, I can drive now?" Dick asked sarcastically to Slade.

Slade rolled his eyes, not looking from the narrow highway, "Legally. And don't you dare say you haven't driven before. I know Grant's given you lessons."

Dick shrugged saying offhandedly, "I'm a teenager now. I don't feel any different."

"The older you get the more and more you won't. You'll never feel your age. You'll feel younger or older but never your age."

Dick laughed, "Wonder how old Wintergreen feels."

"Don't think you want to ask him."

"Why?"

"Wintergreen would cut out one of your kidneys."

Dick shrugged, "Who needs two kidneys anyway."

Slade huffed, "You do."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes."

Dick watched aimlessly at the passing trees, "What are we doing now?"

"Going home."

Dick sighed, "You know what I meant."

"Where going home, packing up, and heading to a town in Road Island called Happy Harbor."

Dick sat back and thought about that, "Isn't that where the League has a bace? Please tell me your not going to raid it."

"Yes and I'm not going to raid it. Even if it would be fun."

Dick hummed, "Slade, do you love Ben?"

Slade about jumped out of his skin. First, the boy hadn't called him dad. The second being the L word being tossed around, "Love? No. Mutual respect is a better way to put it."

"Is it because he's a guy?"

"What? No. I've slept with Taila but we still fall into the mutual respect category. Why? Do you not like that Ben and I have slept together because he is a guy."

"No." Dick scrunched up his nose ever so slightly as he pieced together his thoughts, "It's just... some kid in my online school said something about guys dating guys and.... I just wanted to ask." He bit his inner cheek.

Slade hummed, "You'll find that most assassins, villains, and heroes don't care about that stuff. It's to minor to worry about with everything else that goes on in our lives."

"So it's wrong?"

Slade swerved slightly, "No! Dick what ever that shit head said forget it. It's just fine when people date the same sex. There's nothing wrong about it. Other animals do it just the same as us. Lions for example. They'll settle into a pride of all males and some don't leave. They don't care to find pride of lionesses."

"So it's alright?"

"Yes. It is natural. Plus our population is far too big for any more children. And their are tons of kids out there that need a home. A family."

Dick nodded, "What if I said I like guys and not girls."

Slade hummed, "I'd say your older brother Joey is a better person to talk about guys than me or Grant. Rose would help."

"You wouldn't kick me to the curb?"

"Dick, you saw my sleeping with Ben. Do you really think I'd kick you out from something that is you?" Slade really wanted to know that answer. Did he give off the impression of just throwing him into the street because Dick was gay

"Not really but.... I've seen how people treat others. I just... I didn't know."

Slade took the next exit, parking in at a restraint, "Come here Dick." He hold open his arms in a universal invitation for a hug. Dick lept into Slade's arms silent tears streaming down the boy's cheeks. Slade held the boy close running a hand though the boy's hair, "Do you want to tell me the full story?"

Dick nodded his head, "The a kid in my class liked boys. He was shy and nice. Than one day we were told he'd taken his life. I didn't know at the time he liked guys but than some asshole put in the comments, 'Good riddance, one less fagot in our mitts.' I didn't know what that meant but someone else did. She went off on the asshole. Reading though the hole thing I found out the boy liked boys and the asshole bullied him until... until he couldn't take it."

Slade rubbed Dick back, "What that boy did was wrong. Do you still have that assholes conversation saved?"

"Yes."

"And did the asshole admit he'd driven the boy to this?"

"Yes. He bragged about it."

Slade nodded, "You can go to jail for something like that."

Dick blinked, lifting his head to look quizzically at Slade, "You can?"

"Yes. I think it's time an old friend paid me the favor owed me." Slade squeezed Dick one more time to his chest before letting go, "Dick, look at me kiddo."

Dick looked up at him.

"No matter what, I will love you as my son. You are my son. I think you are vary brave and kind hearted. And no matter who you bring home weather it a girl or a boy, I wont care as long at that being makes you happy."

Dick nodded once more whipping at his tear stained cheeks, "Thank you dad."

Slade grinned, "Now, let's go eat. I'm starving."

Dick laughed, "Me too."

The End... or is it?
