_______________________Nara received a call from Yuta one morning as she was preparing for work, telling her that Mark caught a bad fever and turned before crying for her. This made the caregiver to rush to their apartment to attend the sick toddler.
“Mummy~...” Mark cried as he ran to her when she arrived with a fever patch on his forehead. She carried the warm toddler and took him to the couch where his sippy cup and medicine were on the coffee table. She put him on her lap with him facing her and Mark leaned his head on her shoulder. “Minmin sick~...” The 5 years old whimpered as he clinged to her and cried harder.
“Yes Minmin.. Mummy know Minmin is sick~...” She softly whispered to him and patted his back to calm him down. “Did Mark had his medication yet?” She asked JungWoo and Taeil who were at the living room with them and the two shook their heads.
“We tried giving him but he just won’t take it.” Yuta answered and JungWoo just nodded. She took a look at the medicine and giggled.
"오빠... These are for adults, not kids.” She replied and shook her head with a smile. “Even though, they are adults before turning, but they are children after they turned. Which mean, adult medicine are too high of a dose for them.”
Yuta was going to cheer when she called him, '오빠' for the first time, but he knew it wasn’t the right time to celebrate. The two members slowly nodded and volunteered to go buy some kids medicine.
After the two returned with the medicine, Nara gave Mark, his first medicine by the hour and put him down to sleep. The other quietly leave for their schedule, before Johnny came over to accompany her.
“How is he? Yuta said it was pretty bad. He was crying all morning before you came.” Johnny asked when Nara opened the door for him.
“He just fell asleep after taking his medication.” The two went to the dining area to chat. “Mark had never been this sick before. I mean he had, but never this bad.” Nara sighed and ruffled her hair in frustration.
“I’m taking him to the paediatric emergency if his fever doesn’t went down the slightest by 10.” Nara leaned her head on her arms on the table and let out a sob. “I should have known from the symptoms yesterday. He was dizzy, coughing, dehydrated, lose of appetite, everything. God I feel so useless right now.” The caregiver sobbed harder as she felt guilty for not noticing about her child being sick.
“Nathalie... Hey... Don’t blame yourself about this.” Johnny said to her before going to her side and pulled her into his embrace. “If you’re going to blame this on yourself, then we are going to do the same thing. We too didn’t noticed he was already sick either.” He held her by the shoulder and crouched down to her level.
“And you’re not useless at all. Stop beating yourself up for something you can’t control. You can’t control or stop Mark or the other from getting sick. It’s not your choice.”
“But I should have ask him to take some medication before it got worst, John!” She frustratedly replied as more tears stained her cheeks. “If I did that, he won’t be this bad like now!” Johnny sighed and cupped her face to wipe away her tears.
“Take a deep breath and relax.” He said and held her shoulder. Nara took a deep breath until she calmed down and he hugged her. “Mark is going to be ok. His fever is going to get down and he’s going to a cheerful, giggling and fantastic boy in no time.” Nara nodded as she hugged him back before pulling away.
As she said earlier, Nara went to check the toddler’s temperature and as she predicted, it didn’t went down, not even the slightest. So, with a calm mind, she and Johnny packed a few things into Mark’s lion cub bag, dressing the sick toddler to wear some warm clothes and called one of the managers to bring them to the paediatric emergency nearby.
