Me and Nick stayed on call all night, It was quite comforting after the day we just had. We ended up sleeping on call accidentally, I fell asleep first but I'm pretty sure Nick didn't notice because he was half asleep and not talking very much. It was funny when I woke up too late to go to school to see us still on FaceTime, one of the funniest parts is he was still asleep and it was 9:35 am.
How come Nick's parents didn't wake him up, my mom doesn't wake me up because she knows when I sleep in I'm really dead. Do Nick's parents not care? They had to right? Just then I heard Nick's dad yell, I couldn't quite hear what he said though. Nick appeared to be waking up so I quickly pretended to be asleep so that we didn't hang up, I got the notification that he muted though and turned his camera off.
It made sense to me, he thought I was asleep. Also he looked like he was heading towards the bathroom so he'll be back soon probably. So I just sat there staring at my door, it had pictures around it of me and my old friends. I catch one with me, Chris, Chandler, Jimmy, and Nolan. I miss those guys, I should start hanging with them again. They're so accepting and sweet to me, they had an idea of starting a YouTube channel but I think I'd just be a cameraman to start, I don't like being on camera.
"Karl honey, you awake?" I nodded, "good morning, do you want breakfast?" I smiled,
"Not right now but later, I'm on a call with Nick." She smiled, she mouthed 'are you muted' "yes mom, I'm muted he thinks I'm asleep." I giggled.
"ok well Karl, I know you thought it was weird when I told Nick to just call me Ashley" I nodded "that's because I think you guys have a real shot at this relationship thing" I stared at her wide-eyed,
"Really?" She nodded, "me? With Nick? That would be a literal dream," she laughed.
"Try something soon Karl, he looks at you the way you look at him, he likes you a lot" I smiled,
"Thanks mom" I looked back slightly at the phone and see Nick on screen, "he's back mom love you."
"Love you too hun" she laughed while she left.
I payed a little more attention to Nick's screen and he was all beat up, what the hell. I pretended to be just waking up,
"huh..? Nick? We must've fell asleep on call?" He nodded and smiled. I yawned, not even on purpose. "What hell happened to your face Nick?" He looked at me and frowned.
"Nothing I just was being a fucking idiot, I hurt myself" his nose twitched,
"What actually happened Nick. What happened. Tell me right now. I know you're lying," Nick looked nervous,
"Uh, m-my... dad-" I looked at him through the phone screen upset and angry.
"Nick, why didn't you tell me earlier." He looked down and I could see him frowning, poor Nick I feel so bad.
"I just-" I cut him off I had to get him out of there,
"Nick, pack your bags right now. Bring your mom with you."
"Karl-" he tried saying
"Now Nick. I need you to be safe and your mom." Nick nodded "stay on the phone with me and go to your mom right now" I demanded.
"ok" he walked across the hallway and entered a room, "mom Karl needs to talk to you" he handed the phone to her.
"what is it hun?" She asked,
"I need you and Nick to pack your bags right now and disconnect everything your husband has on you, including your location. You're moving in with us." She looked at me shocked, but nodded and started tearing up.
"Karl are you sure? Have you asked your mom?" Nick asked,
"Don't worry about me Nick, just pack. Call me when you're ready."
"ok Karl, thank you so much." I smiled and waved, he waved back. Once we hung up I sprinted downstairs.
"Mom, mom!" she looked at me with a worried look,
"What is it hun" she asked.
"Mom, Nick and his mom are coming to live with us, Nick's dad was abusing him and his mom."
My mom covered her mouth, I could tell she felt really bad. My mom loves helping people so there was no doubt that she'd let them stay, she smiled at me.
"Karl, I'm so proud of you, but we only have one guest room. How is that going to work?"
I pondered her question but I couldn't find a solution, my mom appeared to have one. I didn't want to know what it was but she knew a lot so I trusted her.
"Nick can just sleep in your room until his mom has enough money to buy her own house, then they can move out." I nodded, I mean how bad would it be, it doesn't mean anything. Sadly.
I got a call from Nick ten minutes later, when I answer he's frantically running around trying to find something.
"Nick, Nick!" He looked at the camera sadly, "what are you looking for?" He frowned.
"I'm looking for another one of my rings," he frowned and sat on his bed, "it was from my mom, it had a checkered flame on it." He looked so upset, I could see the ring meant a lot to him.
"Nick where do you usually put it when you aren't wearing it," I asked trying to help figure out where it was with him.
"I keep it on my dresser, near a picture of me and my mom." He told me,
"did you check behind or under the dresser, maybe behind the picture." I heard his stand up and lift the picture,
"Not under the picture," I saw him look behind the dresser "not behind the dresser" he looked like he was about to give up.
"Nick get a flashlight and look under the dresser now" he nodded and went to get a flashlight.
I really hope he finds his ring, it seems really important to him. I'd hate for him to not be able to find it before he leaves the house. I heard the door open and close, I knew Nick was back.
"okay I got a flashlight," I nodded. Nick went onto the ground and looked under the dresser with the flashlight, I saw his head perk up a little. Did he find it? I really hope so,
"Did you find it?" He stood up and turned to face the phone,
"I found it! I found it! I found it!" He looked so happy, he was jumping up and down.
"Yay Nick! Good job!" He smiled,
"Thank you Karl for helping me, we're ready now, whenever you guys get here." I nodded and smiled,
"Okay then Nick we'll be there soon" I saw Nick smiled, he looked very relieved and happy to get out of that house, I'm honestly so happy that I am able to help him and his mom with this problem. "Once we get to the house me and my mom can show you around" he nodded and waved goodbye, I waved back and hung up.
I sprinted downstairs for the second time today to get my mom to drive me to Nick's house, I'm hoping Nick and his mom will be comfortable at our house. Let's just hope that nothing bad happens while we're trying to get them out of the house safely.
