A word with Dumbledore is had
THIRD PERSON'S POV

(Y/N) entered the office, without knocking. She did feel bad bout it, but she had to get off those moving stairs. They were making her shoulder blades hurt again.

"(Y/N), dear, you're looking quite pale, come sit." Minerva ushered her into the most comfortable chair in the room, where Minerva herself had been planning to sit, but this was one of her children she was worried about.

"I'm fine." (Y/N) waved Minerva off breathlessly as she tried to calm her heartbeat, fiddling with her bracelets.

"Do you need a glass of water? Rubeus, be a dear and fetch that pitcher over there, won't you?" Minerva fussed around the child, "Why do you look like you've been running a marathon, child?"

"I came up the stairs, Professor." (Y/N) answered truthfully as her Da gave her the glass of water, "Thanks, Da. The stairs stress me out. I had to use Filch's corridors to get here. My shoulder blades hurt when I take the stairs."

"Why would that happen?" Hagrid asked, brows furrowed.

"It may be a result of what happened earlier on today – (Y/N) knows the difference between my stairs and the main moving staircases, but her inner mind doesn't just yet. It may be her body's way of telling her to stop. She's smart to listen to it, too. Not many people listen to their bodies." Dumbledore stated, eyeing the child in the oversized yellow chair as she sipped her water, heart rate calming down as she felt the material of the chair under her palms.

Dumbledore clapped his hands, making Fawkes jump in surprise, "Now, about what happened earlier on today – I assure you, my dear girl, I would not have let you fall. There are charms in place under the stairs to make sure none of my students get hurt. You aren't the first student to go through the fake stair nor will you be the last."

"Well, I didn't know that at th' time, did I!" (Y/N) snapped, "'Twas only me 'n' Adrian on the ruddy stairs, and Heads of Houses don' tell yeh about th' charms!"

"Lass!" Hagrid sighed in a scolding tone, making (Y/N) shuffle back into her chair a bit more, stilling her legs.

"No, no, Rubeus, the child has a right to feel this way," Dumbledore defended, "I would too, if I were in her situation. I'm afraid, however that nothing can be done about the stairs to stop situations like that happening, though."

"What? Can't you make the stairs themselves smaller, cut them in half so that way only a foot goes through and not the entire body?" (Y/N) asked, feeling outraged, "You still trip up!"

"I'm afraid not. It's a defense mechanism. As said before, the stairs are enchanted so students will not hurt themselves from falling." Dumbledore reassured.

"Well, what is (Y/N) meant to do now? If the stairs make her feel like that, she can't walk on them, and she very well can't take Filch's corridors everywhere. What if other students see it and complain to their parents, who then complain to you or someone higher up that one child is getting special treatment?" Minerva interjected.

"She will get escorted to and from classes by Mr Filch through the hidden corridors. That way, no one will question it." Dumbledore stated calmly.

"What? Getting escorted by Filch? That'll ruin any chance I have at making friends, just make Mrs. Norris escort me, please." (Y/N) begged.
