Back at Hogwarts, and a chat with the Weasley boys
READER'S POV

I was still cross at Da when they let me into his care, finished with the observation. I didn't speak to him, or hug him when I saw him. It turns out all of the adults knew I was adopted, and a few of the older kids, Charlie and Bill included. I felt betrayed.

The mediwitch who had been at the head of the team caring for me instructed Da and Poppy to 'bring her right back if anything else happens'. I didn't think anything else would. Pain potions worked again now, which was nice. I didn't have to sit through cramps anymore.

I feel like I'd been through the worst of it. Physical worst of it. I still had to show myself around Hogwarts. That would be the emotional worst of it.

"We're going to Dumbledore's office first, lass." Da informed me.

I nodded, still not saying anything. I'd get back in time for the first class of the day. Breakfast would've only just been starting now. Da brought me breakfast from the Hut, a bacon and egg sandwich with orange juice. I fiddled with the cards Ginny and Ron wrote to me as we walked up the hallway and to the reception, where the fireplaces were.

I grabbed some powder, and walked into the fireplace, then threw it down and yelled, "Dumbledore's office!"

I was immediately engulfed in green flames, then they disappeared. I walked over and sat myself on an ottoman. I heard the fireplace roar again, but didn't turn around to see who it was.

Heavy footsteps clumped along the floor and stopped at the chair behind me. The fireplace roared once more, and quick, light footsteps briskly walked over to the exit.

I started playing with the charms on my bracelets. Dumbledore peered at me through his crescent shaped glasses. His eyes twinkled behind them.

He smiled warmly, "Welcome back, (Y/N). I'm glad to see you are well."

"Thank you." I replied shortly.

"I heard you learned of the way you truly came into Hagrid's care." Dumbledore stated, watching me closely.

"I did." I answered, feeling anger bubble up inside me once more as I looked at my feet to avoid eye contact.

"It is a ... suboptimal way of being put into someone's care, but, at least, you are where you are now." He said, making me stop and think.

If Da hadn't won me, would I even be in Hogwarts? Would I have the friends I do now? Most likely not.

"It still doesn't help the fact that I could have parents out there somewhere looking for me." I stated as I looked back at him, making Dumbledore frown.

"Dear child, had we ever heard wind of anyone looking for you, we would have returned you to them straight away." He reassured me.

"Can I go now?" I asked impatiently, bouncing my leg.

Dumbledore nodded, "You may. The Weasley boys are waiting outside for you."

I got up quickly, the ottoman sliding back along the floor, and speed walked to the exit. I watched the stairs appear out of the wall and felt slightly nauseous.

"Do you need me to take you down?" Da asked, sounding hopeful.

"No!" I spat, then started walking down them.

I then decided to take the steps two at a time, skipping a step, basically hopping down them in a fast way. Once I got down the stairs, I took a moment to breathe and steady myself.
