Stressful situations and St Mungo's
READER'S POVToday was a Monday, which not only meant the start of a new week, but it meant Charms, which meant Valerie, which meant no fun. I was still bleeding, which was very not fun. Pain potions no longer worked, which meant I had to sit in pain all day.
Professor Flitwick had paired Valerie and I up to sit at the same desk, to promote 'Inter-House interaction'. Every Gryffindor now sat next to a Ravenclaw. He was oblivious to our quarrels, as we sat down the back because we were sensible. Valerie and I hadn't had another big row, just petty squabbles, but they were still annoying. Angelina and her partner sat across the aisle from us, thank Merlin.
In today's lesson we were learning how to cast Lumos and Nox. We had managed to do it to our own wands, and now were trying lighting up candles, then putting out the flame.
I looked at the candle in front of me, cursing it for not lighting up. Valerie had managed to light her candle before me, which was alright, but she always had to rub it in. I'd rub her face along this desk one of these classes, I swear to Merlin.
"(N/N) dearest," Valerie began, putting her elbows on the table and using them to support her head cupped in her hands.
"Firstly, don't call me that, ever, unless you want me to fly kick you across this school, secondly, what do you want?" I asked as I tried to light my candle once more.
"I saw you and your friends' picnic the other day, it was quite nice." She said breezily, "You and that twin looked quite cute, cuddled up and reading together."
I rolled my eyes, "It's a normal thing that I do with Fred. I do it with both of the twins, and anyone else."
"You like him." She accused, looking at me.
"What? No." I denied, but my cheeks went red and my voice shook.
"I know you do. And I'm going to tell him after this very class, and if you try to stop me I'll tell the entirety of Hogwarts." Valerie announced simply.
I waved my wand once more, but my entire candle lit up instead of just the wick.
Bugger.
"Nox." I said, waving my wand frantically, and it went out.
"You may start packing your stuff away." Flitwick announced.
I looked up at the clock behind him. We had two minutes until the end of class. I heard Valerie packing up next to me.
"Fred's gonna laugh in your face because you aren't worthy of him." Valerie hissed as she shoved her wand into her pocket, "He's never going to want to be your friend ever again."
I looked up at the front, where Fred had been placed so Professor Flitwick could keep an eye on him. He was laughing with his desk partner about something. What if he didn't want to be friends with me anymore because I liked him? I wouldn't want to be friends with anyone if they liked me. I think.
The bell for the next class had rung, and we all scuttled out of our seats. I hurried out of the classroom, through the hidden passages out of the castle and down to Greenhouse One.
I sat on my stool, back hurting from all the stress. Fred and George walked in. I took a shaky breath. Valerie wouldn't have done it.
Fred looked over to me, then back away quickly, whispering to George. Maybe she had done it.
I started feeling stuff poking against the skin of my back from underneath it. That certainly wasn't normal. The feeling made me want to vomit. I felt all of the blood drain from my face.
Professor Sprout came over to me, noticing how pale I was.
"Oh, dear, you're looking a little green around the gills. Miss Johnson, please escort your classmate to the Hospital Wing." She instructed, and Angelina hurried over, and looped her arm around my body.
"Thanks." I offered flatly, and we stood up and walked to the Hospital Wing.
"Sit her on the bed there, and head off to your next class, (Y/N) will join you when she's better." Madam Pomfrey commanded Angelina.
"See you!" Angelina said quickly, then left, her shoes making clacking noises against the tiles.
"Bucket." I wheezed out, and a bucket flew under my chin just in time for me to bring my breakfast back up.
"My back, it hurts." I groaned, dropping the bucket.
I screamed as a white hot flash of pain hit me. Poppy came over and the privacy curtain set itself up around my bed as took my robes off and undid my shirt. I was happy I had put on a bra today.
I reached over my shoulder and grabbed at a lump on my skin. I scratched, picked, pulled, and finally managed to yank something out. I looked at what I yanked out. A bloody, black feather.
I felt my heart stop. This definitely wasn't normal.
"What the actual fuck!" I screeched, "This came from me back, Poppy, me fucking back!"
I doubled over and started gagging once more. I heard the bones in my back crack, making me scream.
"Oh, Merlin, you need to go to St Mungo's." Poppy mumbled, going pale herself.
She levitated me, making me screech.
"Magic makes it worse, magic makes it worse!" I yelled, writhing around in pain as she quickly took me into her office and placed me into the fireplace.
"St Mungo's!" She said, dropping the Floo powder.
We were surrounded with green flames, then reappeared in one of the fireplaces at St Mungo's. I was now sobbing. My bones were still shifting around, and breaking. I could feel them stretch against my skin.
"It hurts." I moaned as I got put onto a stretcher.
"She's growing wings, Magnus." Poppy said in a panicked tone to the Mediwizard who was on the left of me as they took me to a room.
"A witch? Growing wings?" He asked preposterously.
"Wings." Poppy confirmed.
Black spots were now dotting my vision, and I finally passed out.
§§§
The wings are FINALLY here lmao
Love y'all ❤️
