"Y/N! You have a letter!" The call from y/n's mother sounded more like a question. Even so, y/n was to her mother in seconds.
"A letter? I never get mail." As her mom handed her the letter, y/n ran through the list of people it could be from, but was stopped suddenly when she read the front.

"Who sent it?"
"No idea. Open it!" Y/N's mother shoved her elbow.
Over the next few minutes, y/n's eyes skimmed the page and the world blurred as a part of her came into the light she didn't know existed.
As the brick wall slid aside with magic that y/n hadn't fully taken in yet, the world seemed suddenly brighter. She was shopping for things in a magical alley, so she could go to a magical school, to learn magical spells, and meet magical people. This was most definitely the best day of her life.
Going through the list of items she would need was never boring. Y/N had never particularly liked school shopping, but this was entirely different. Everywhere she looked, she saw something new. Whether it be a flying broomstick, a magic wand, or an owl flapping it's beautiful wings, nothing ever ceased to surprise her.
The very last thing on her list was her robes. As she walked into the shop, she took it all in. The robes were nothing like the clothes she had worn her whole life, and suddenly she didn't know anymore if she wanted to wear them all year. Knots tied themselves into her stomach as she finally realized what she would be doing. Y/n would be going to a boarding school for the whole school year, away from her parents. How could she do that?
As panic overtook y/n, twisting in her stomach, someone walked up behind her.
"Can you move out of the way?"
As y/n turned around, she was faced with a tall man with an identical son standing below him, both with identical scowls distorting their features. It was the son who spoke.
"Can you ask a bit nicer? I guess I must've missed it, but I didn't think you owned the alley." This was not a good way to tell off this bratty boy, seeing as she didn't actually know who owned the alley and his family looked quite rich. Nevertheless, she held her ground and looked the pale blonde boy in his icy blue eyes.
"Now, Draco. That is not how we treat new people, now is it?" The father, though speaking to his son, was looking at y/n as if amused by her snapping at Draco.
The boy scowled, still facing y/n, then turned to his father and said, "Of course not Father."
Y/N let them pass then, sensing the tension between father and son.
"Get your robes fitted and bought and meet me in Flourish and Blotts. Hurry, Draco." And with one more amused smile towards y/n, he swept his cloak around him, turning on his heels, and left the shop.
"Thanks for that." Draco rolled his eyes and bumped passed y/n.
"Thanks for what? Standing up for myself? Yeah. You're welcome." Y/N turned to face Draco and grinned. It wasn't smug or rude. She was just being friendly.
Draco blushed at her smile and angrily turned to get fitted. A clerk walked up to them both.
"Hello dears. I'm Madame Malkin. Hogwarts?" It was a squat, older woman all in mauve smiling down at her. She was sweet and smelled like y/n's own grandmother, and it made her smile.
