"Who said that!" Y/N eyes flew about the room, yet she couldn't find anyone there.
"For heaven's sake, shut up! I'm on the wall. I swear, everyone he brings in here is more thick headed than the last."
"Excuse me?" Y/N had found the source of the rude voice. It was a large portrait hung next to the door.
"I guess it's fitting his girlfriend is thick. If he found someone smart, even a little bit, they's make him look dumber than he already is!"
"I beg your pardon! I am not thick! And--" She hesitated. She couldn't stand up for Draco because even she thought he was being stupid right now. "And I'm not his girlfriend!"
"Feisty! Okay, say you aren't his girlfriend. Why does he want you in here? He saves this room for his special guests."
"Why?"
"I thought you said you weren't thick! Because I have another frame in his room. He uses me like a telephone. Sometimes it's awful--"
"How does he use you like a telephone? And aren't you a wizard? How on earth do you know what a telephone is?"
The portrait seemed rather put out. "Will you stop interrupting me, girl! And--"
"My name isn't Girl. It's y/n!" Even y/n had to admit that she was just trying to annoy him at this point.
"That is it! I'm going to Draco's room!"
As the portrait stomped out of frame, y/n stuck her tongue out at it. Finally alone, y/n changed into her pajamas and went to pull a book off the shelf in the library. As she sat down on her comfortable mattress, she heard a knock at the door. Annoyed at the interruption, she walked to the door, but hesitated with the knob in her hand.
What if it was Draco? But it couldn't be. He wasn't the type of person to back down first. As long as it wasn't Lucius, y/n was fine with anyone else being behind the door, so she opened it.
"Dobby? Is there something you need?" Y/n was confused.
"N-no miss...y/n. Dobby just wondered if you needed anything?"
"Oh! I think I'm okay Dobby. But you can come in if you'd like."
Dobby teared up and stepped through the open doorway, releasing a wail when she closed the door, making y/n jump.
"What's wrong, Dobby." y/n asked, kneeling in front of Dobby.
"Dobby has never been invited anywhere before! Dobby is only told where to go!" Dobby wailed again and blew his nose in the nasty pillow case he was wearing.
"I'm...sorry?" Y/n wanted to hug the elf, but she had a feeling it would make him cry even more. She frantically looked around for some kind of work for Dobby to do to cheer him up. She had read somewhere that House Elves love working. Her eyes landed on the book case and making a decision. "Actually, I do have something you could do! I wanted to reorganize the library. Why don't you help me?"
"Of course, Miss! Dobby would be pleased to help!"
So y/n worked with Dobby to get the bookshelf organized alphabetically, then by color, learning more about him the whole time. Little things like how he referred to himself in third person, and how he actually was really powerful and made all the books levitate off the bookshelf. Y/N even taught him how to read the titles of the books a little while they worked. By the time they were done, Dobby even referred to y/n as his friend.
"Goodnight Dobby," y/n said, waving to Dobby in the hall.
"Goodnight Miss y/n!" Then Dobby disappeared with a pop.
