Practice went by fine for Tobio. Sure he could hear every squeaky shoe from his teammates. Sure he could hear how loud Coach Ukai was yelling and it felt like his ears were about to explode.

Sure the screaming of the whistle was loud. Sure the ball bouncing against the floor would sometimes feel like thunder. Sure the noises from outside were just as loud as the ones inside and sure all the noise made his brain turn to mush and goo, but all he had to do was focus right?

That's what his grandmother and parents had told him. To 'Just focus', which is a lot easier in theory.

It's during his classes that made it harder for him. He could hear every scratch of the pens, feet tapping against the ground, every little sigh, the clock tick tick ticking away. Everything. He could hear Everything.

But he pushed on and continued with  his school work, despite the teacher writing on the chalk board making it feel like his insides are turning into his outsides.
