Chapter 12

Seeing Zander in the hospital was not the easiest thing to do but I feel a whole lot better knowing that he is stable. I wasn't surprised to see my friend group there at the hospital and I was informed that Veronica was checking herself into rehab that night so I drove her down.

I stayed to make sure that she got checked in and Micah came along with us for emotional support since they have both been getting close. I have plans to check in on Zander in the evening but for now, I need to spend time with my little girl.

"How are you doing?" I ask my daughter as I kiss her forehead and she shrugs her shoulders as she cuddles into me. "You hungry?"

"Mom already made me breakfast before you came to get me."

"Alright." I rub her back. "Zander has the best doctors there and he's stable now so there is nothing to worry about. When he's feeling better, I'll take you to go see him for a minute."

"Thank you." Lils kisses my cheek and I smile at her. "Does that mean that I have stay with my mom for the next few days?"

"It's up to you." I tell her. "If you want to stay here then you can but there are going to be times when I'll need to go see Zander." 

A yawn escapes my lips and I run a hand through my hair as I realise how exhausted I really am. Prior to me picking Lily up, Zane gave me the keys to Zanders house and I went there to clean it up out of respect for my best mate.

Lily tightens her grip around me, "I'll stay with my mom for two more days."

"That's my girl." I lightly chuckle. "Now your old man needs some sleep."

"Yeah, you should get some sleep." She pats my stomach before standing up. "I'll go make us some lunch and if it doesn't work out then I will get us a take out."

I look at her weirdly, "Since when did you start cooking?"

"Since I started watching TikTok." She flips her hair and I snort as I lay out on the sofa. "When we were at Big Bear, nana was teaching me how to do some of the basics since you always insist on cooking for us."

"Fuck me." I cover my mouth in surprise. "You sound like a seventeen year old."

"I will be in four years." She smiles at me and I playfully flip her off. "Keep flipping me off and I will put you in a care home."

"You would never." I narrow my eyes at her and her smile softens.

"I know." She clicks her tongue at me as she starts walking out of the room, "I love you too much to let you go."

Her words make me melt.

"I LOVE YOU TOO, LILS!" I call out before crashing out since I need some sleep.

I was at the hospital when I received an email from Lia stating that she wanted to meet which was a complete surprise seeing as we are in a bitter custody battle. I have not spoken to her in weeks, not since I slept with her cousin out of spite.

"What do you want?" I look at Lia with a bored expression as we sit in this near empty diner. "Why did you email me?"

"You blocked my number, remember." She raises her brow at me. "I wanted to have a civil conversation with you about Beau."

I perk up at the sound of my son's name.

"Where is he?" I start looking around the diner even though it's ten at night, way past his bedtime. 

"He's with my brother." She calmly responds before looking into my eyes, "I want us to put an end to this custody battle of ours."

"Why?" I sit back in my seat. "Is it because I'm winning?"

She snorts, "I may be a bitch to some people but I just want the best for my child and I realised that I haven't been doing that. He asks about you a lot and when I don't show up with you, he cries for hours... it breaks my heart."

I close my eyes for a moment.

"We may not have worked out but you have always been the best father. You took your daughter in even though you basically had nothing to do with her and I see the way she looks at you." Lia smiles sadly. "She looks at you as if you're hero and Beau does the same. In their eyes, I'm the villain and I'm tired of being that person."

Lia starts to cry and I look at her in surprise since she rarely cries. When I first met her on set, I was in awe over her work and knowing that she was a member of Linkin' Park was mind-blowing. She brought me a long to a few tour dates when we were dating and the sex we had was wild as fuck. 

Then she cheated on me and I left.

"I tried to get Micah to help me but he wanted nothing to do with me." She continues to cry and that's when I remember that she is also related to Micah. It's very easy to forget that they are cousins considering that Micah barely speaks to his family.

"Don't cry." I slide out of the booth before sliding in besides her. I wrap my arms around her but I make sure to keep my face away because I don't want her to suddenly attack me like she has done many times before and I certainly do not want her to kiss me.

"Forgive me." She looks up at me and I feel my heart soften as I see her tear filled eyes. "We'll do joint custody and I promise that I won't make your life hard anymore. I just want to be a good mom."

"You are a good mom." If I really wanted to, I could tear her down right now but that's not me anymore. "We all have changes that we need to make in our lives and he best thing that we can do is acknowledge our wrongdoings."

"I will speak with lawyer and have her fax over the details to yours." She sighs deeply. "I'm sorry for being a bitch to you and tell Lily that I'm sorry for not being her superwoman."

"You were a little bit of a bitch." I respond and she laughs which makes me laugh. "I'll accept your apology if you stick to your words." 

"Ok."
