He knocked on the door, his expression set and grim. He couldn't guess their reactions to this... situation. He had heard rumors that England's brothers had bullied him when he was younger, but he didn't know their relationship right now... I mean, before he... you know.

He first guessed that they would laugh in his face, saying that they don't care.

But then he realized that siblings are siblings, so maybe they'll care.

They'd better, because if they didn't... well, they'd see what's coming to them.

The door was answered only moments later by a red-haired man with green eyes. He was smoking a cigarette, the smoke leaving a trail in the air. The visitor smiled wearily before asking permission to go in.

When he stepped in, there were three more people, two men and one woman. His hands tightened. How would he tell them about this... news? Should he be blunt about it? Should he go into an explanation first? Should he--

The man who answered the door cut his thoughts by asking a question that America dreaded to hear, even though he was here to answer that very question.

"What's happening to Arthur? Sick again? What a wimp," he took another drag of his cigarette, the smoke coming out from his mouth when he parted his lips. He had a Scottish accent, and America guessed that he was Scotland, the eldest of the Kirkland brothers.

America stayed silent for a few moments, still deciding which option would be the best.

"Well?" he asked again, and the blue-haired nation made his mind.

"Read it," he shoved the envelope in Scotland's arms, and retreated as England's brother read the letter.

His eyes widened. He cares after all, a small part of America thought. But the rest of him was anxious for more reactions from the Scottish man.

"So... he's..." even Scotland couldn't say the word. His heart filled with dread as he went on, as his eyes skimmed over the letter and read it over and over, again and again. Arthur couldn't-- He could not have--

        "He commited suicide."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Deny, deny, deny. That's what we all do, right? It's what everyone does. France, America, Canada. Scotland, Germany, China. All countries. Even those who weren't even close to Britain. Like Switzerland.

It is surprising, after all. A death of a nation? Didn't think about it. A suicide at that? Wow, that is completely out of the box! But as they avoided this, they created the denial to be even stronger.

They can't accept the truth that they were the ones who broke him. They can't accept it, which is what denial is for, isn't it?

America, even though he was forced to deliver the news to the Kirkland brothers, he never believed it. He won't believe it, even after he sees the truth. A part of him would forever be in denial, even when the rest of him had accepted the truth.

        The horrible truth.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

They were all shocked to the core. Ireland, Northern Ireland, and Wales. Scotland read the letter out loud, in a trembling voice so unlike him. Northern Ireland was crying. Ireland and Wales were close to tears.

"This can't-It wouldn't-he can't--" Northern Ireland stuttered, but nobody answered him. They were too shocked to, anyways. And in denial.

And they each swore that they wouldn't believe this without seeing an evidence that it ever happened.

        Denial is a terrible thing.
