"TINE! MOVE! THE TRUCK!"
Tine's POV
As I looked ahead, I saw a truck coming right towards us. So, I made a split second decision to swerve the car to the side of the road to to avoid the truck. But while doing so, we hit a tree with enormous impact.
My head hit something and for a second my mind went completely blank.
"Tine?
Tine?
Are you okay?
Can you hear me?"
"Yea.. I am fine Wat. You are yelling too loudly."
I sighed, finally opening up my eyes and seeing the car bonnet lodged into the tree. Thank god, my nervousness set in right in time and I started driving slowly, or else this could have gone very, very wrong, very, very quickly.
Instantly, I looked at Sarawat. "Are you okay? Did you get hurt anywhere?"
"I am okay. I didn't get hurt. But.. Tine... your head, its bleeding.."
I tilted my head to check my face in the mirror. My forehead had scratched a bit. I stared down at the steering wheel and my hands that were still fixated on it. I probably hit the watch I was wearing when my head fell forward. "Its just a small scratch. I'll live."
"Wait a second..." Sarawat took out a white handkerchief from his pocket and carefully wiped the blood off. "Its a small scratch but we should disinfect it. Are you really okay?"
I stared in Sarawat's eyes, taking him all in. "Are you.. are you really? Tell me honestly, you aren't hurt anywhere, are you?"
Sarawat smiled. "I am okay. Though I am not sure if I can say the same thing about your mom's car."
Right... I had forgotten about that.
I got out of the car to inspect the damage. The hood had completely rammed into the tree, but at least we were both okay. At least we were both alive.
"Don't you think its weird the truck was coming right towards us until you moved the car to the side?" Sarawat asked as soon as he got out of the car too. "How the hell did the truck even come to the wrong side of the road? May be the driver was drunk or something... "
"That's exactly what I was thinking." I said.
And its all quite weird how the truck just manages to show up even when the accident timing changed before. Even if the accident time changed, even when Sarawat's father wasn't driving the car at all, two things remained the same: Mom's car was involved and there was a truck involved.
That's too much for a coincidence and I don't buy it for a second.
"I memorized the number plate of the truck. May be you can file a police report against the driver and at least get him to pay for car repairs."
"You did? You saw the number? Did you see the driver too?"
"No, unfortunately not. But I think the license number would help." Sarawat looked down at the car again. "God, your mom's car is ruined. I am so sorry. This is all my fault. I shouldn't have asked you to come pick me up. Or I should I listened to you and just ditched the whole college fest. May be this was just a bad day to begin with. I am so — so sorry."
