Spider-man wasn't mad at her anymore. She didn't have a proper excuse, she'd simply call it a "mental fart", and she apologized sincerely for it. When she came back from patrol that night, she heard distant voices in the tower. Wondering if Happy hadn't gone home yet, she changed into her pj's and left her room.

"No, you don't get it," Tony said. "The world needs Iron Man—"

"And I need to know my partner isn't suffering," Pepper responded. "Look at you, Tony! You may not be thinking about making a new Ultron, but you certainly don't act like you've learned your lesson."

The couple continued arguing, C.C. knew she would not be well received in the room. She tiptoed back to her floor and went to bed, hoping their argument wouldn't last for long.

She didn't see Pepper after that night.

Tony, who would come and go every day, briskly told her to stop poking around other people's business when she asked where the woman had gone to. C.C. came to the conclusion that things had ended or at least were in a delicate state, so she decided to keep her mouth shut.

The man was stressed most of the time, he would mutter to himself and spend his nights at the tower designing new tech. He'd finally assembled a helmet for her, but it was in the garage, where she could not access easily.

"Tony broke up with his girlfriend," She told MJ. "He's been acting weird since."

"Damn, is he okay?"

"I think they fought because of Iron Man," She shrugged. "I think she didn't want him risking his life, but that's what he does for a living."

"She said that?"

"She said something about not wanting to see her partner suffer," She tilted her head. "And not learning his lesson after creating Ultron..."

"It sounds like she doesn't want him to get in trouble," MJ raised a brow. "Which makes sense."

"I don't understand," C.C. sighed. "People are happy to have heroes looking after them, but only as a concept, they don't actually enjoy it in real life."

"Usually when the Avengers show up, it means you're about to die," Her friend explained.

"Maybe they should be less whiny," She grumbled.

"It's not their fault that cities get destroyed, that part's right," MJ admitted. "But they don't do much to control the damage. They throw cars left and right without wondering if the owner will be able to replace it. I get why they come off as aggravating."

C.C. hadn't thought of how the aftermath of the fights could affect normal people. She knew Tony had his damage control thingy, but that was for the buildings and stuff that had been damaged. What happened to the people that had been close to the action?

She let out a sigh, that was just the way things were, there was no way around it. Hopefully, it'd be a long time before they had to fight to that extent again, and maybe next time she could try to damage both, the people and the city, as little as possible.

"He really is great at his job, isn't he?" C.C. snorted. "But calling his new toy B.A.R.F is really unprofessional..."

"That's Tony," Happy hummed. "I'm supposed to pick him up in an hour, so hurry up and eat—"

"Oh no, no no no no," She pushed her plate aside, Tony's presentation had been abruptly interrupted on the tv by a news report. "Please tell me that's old footage..."
