When you got back home after school you immediately asked your mom if you could go shopping. She said you could only go if she came along, so both of you went to the nearest mall.

After looking forever you couldn't find anything to wear to prom. Even though you didn't want to, your mom forced you to go into a costume shop.

"Mom, I'm not going to find you anything to wear here, it's not a Halloween party. It's a 'Masquerade Ball'." You signed, looking around the store.

"I know but they might have a dress or something you use." She said looking through the racks. Sighing, you began to look through the rack also.

Your mom made you try on a bunch of dress. From big puffy dresses to long puff less dresses, but there wasn't anything that caught your eye.

Tired you sat at the register. You glance down for a second to look through the display and saw the most beautiful mask ever.

"Mom, look." You pointed to the mask through the glass.

"Can I see that?" Your mom asked the cashier.

"Mom, I don't think there's anything in this store that would go with that mask." You said looking at her with disappointment.

"But I think I know who might be able to make you a dress to go with it. Can buy this mask please?" Your mom asked the cashier.

"Sure." She took the mask and went to the register.

"Mom, I-" You tried to question her but she interrupted.

"After this we're going to go get you those heels we saw." She said and went to pay for the mask.

You started to think about what Vanessa said to you earlier that day, how it wouldn't make a difference if you went or not. Then you started to think about Ashton. How after you were forced to ask him to prom and he rejected you,he made it seem as if you two weren't ever friends. He made it seem as if you were just the poor girl who had a crush on him and was forced to embarrassed herself in front of everyone. He made it seem as, you two were as close as strangers, when both of you knew you were the beast of friends. Both of you could at like the person you are, not who everyone thinks you are. You could act like the loud, clumsy girl you are and not the shy quiet nerd everyone made you out to be. And he could act like the weird, goofy guy he is and not the cool, collective jock everyone made him out to be.

For a moment you thought,' I'll just call him and ask him if he wants hangout when I get home', but then you remembered, 'Oh, right I can't. He rejected me' And your smile faded, because the only person you be yourself around, didn't want you. He didn't want you in a friendship type of way or in a romantic type of way. He didn't want you, period.

"Mom... I don't think I want to go anymore." You tried to avoid her eyes.

"That's nonsense. You have to go. It your senior prom." She held my hand.

"I know it's my senior prom, but I don't really want to go. It's a beautiful mask mom, and I'm sure you would've helped me find a beautiful dress but I just don't feel like going. Sorry, mom." I said with a sad smile.

She smiled back. "Okay sweetie, if that's what you want. Come on, let's go."

*ONE WEEK LATER*

After the weekend, it was like no one remembered what happened on Friday. It was like it never happened, and it was like Ashton never knew you existed.

Whenever you passed him in the hallways it was like you weren't even there, and when you had class together and had to work on your project with your partner, which you two were paired up together, he would pretend as if he didn't hear you.

But you didn't really care, you appreciated it actually. Even though you were back to being the invisible lonely girl, you knew you had no one or anything to worry about. You didn't have to worry if that one friend you had was actually annoyed by you. You didn't have to worry about being picked on because you were rejected in front of the whole school, because no one noticed you. You didn't have to worry if that one friend you had, the one you grew feelings for, liked you more than a friend. You had your answers you needed. You did annoy him, and he would never have feelings for you, because people like him don't like people like you. They didn't like hanging out with people like you and they didn't have romantic feelings for people like you. His world and your world were completely different.

Believing that your worlds could come together was like living in a fairy tale. And every fairy tale has to end. It ends and you feel like you'd give anything to have it back, even for a second.

And when you finally realize there's nothing you can do, you're left with nothing but a place you don't want to be in. A place you want to run away from.

You're left with reality.
