Stepping through the front doors to your school, you quickly made your way over to your locker. After stuffing all your books into your locker and then getting your English book, you made your way to your first class.

The rest of the day was uneventful. All everyone could even talk about was the stupid prom.

You made eye contact with Ashton once or twice, but he acted as if he didn't know you. 'Some best friend' you thought.

It was finally time for the last period of the day, History.

You and Ashton still hadn't finish your project and it was do the very next day, great.

You sat down at your desk, waiting for everyone to come in at class to start.

The teacher stood up at tried to quite everyone down, failing miserably.

"Hey, (Y/N)." Ashton turned to you, giving you a smile.

"Hello, Ashton." You said with the same cold voice as the night of the prom.

"Wow, such a warm greeting." He said with a smirk.

"Is there a reason you're taking to me?" You turned to give him a glare.

"Come on (Y/N), you're my best friend and I miss yo-" He was interrupted by the teacher.

"Mr. Irwin, Ms. (Y/L/N). Is there anything you'd like to share with the class?" He raised his eyebrows, waiting for an answer.

"No, sir. I apologize, we were just talking about our project." You said turning back to the front of the class.

"Speaking of the project, as you all may know it is due tomorrow at the end of class and you will be presenting it next week. So use the rest of the class time to work on it please." He sat down at his desk and started typing on his computer.

"Can we talk, plea-" You cut Ashton of before he could finish.

"I can start and finish the project by tonight, so don't worry about having to do any work." You pulled out your earphones and stated to listen to your favorite song.

As soon as the bell rang you were out the door on your way to your locker.

"(Y/N)! Wait!" Ashton ran after you, bumping into everyone. You ignored him and continued your way to your locker.

"(Y/N)." He breathed out, trying to control his breath. "We need to talk. Please."

"There is absolutely nothing we need to talk about Ashton." You stuffed your history book into your locker and grabbed it again remembering you needed it to work on the project.

"Please, I know what I did that day was an absolute horrible thing to do but, I'm sorry. I panicked, everyone was watching you, watching me. Watching us. And I didn't expect you to ask me to prom. If I had known I would hav-"

"Would have what? Would have 'let me down easy'? Huh? Or would you have said yes out of pity? You know what Ashton, I really don't care. It's not like expected you to say yes. I knew you would have said no, so I don't know why I cried myself to sleep that night! I guess there was a small part of me that just hoped you would feel that same, and that's where I messed up. That small hope is what completely ruined me. I should have known you'd never even think of me like that. It's a miracle we were even friends. We live in to completely different worlds, Ashton, we weren't meant to associate with each other, much less be together." You closed your locker and began to walk away.

"(Y/N) wai-" Once again he was interrupted, but not by you.

"Ashton! I've been looking for you everywhere!" Vanessa flung her arms around his neck. "I missed you. I wanted to thank you for a wonderful night you gave me after prom." She giggled, literally giggled like a 4-year-old girl, and turned to you.

"What are you doing talking to that!?" She looked you up and down, then rolled her eyes. "Come on, let's go over to your house." She tugged at his arm.

"Go wait for me at my car, I just... I just need to finish talking to her about... the... uh... history project we need to finish." He gave her a peck on the lips and she ran off.

"Wow. I thought you, 'broke it off with her a week ago'."  You glared at him, watching him squirm. You watched his face turn from guilt to confusion once he realized what you said.

"Who told you that?" He studied you, waiting for your response.

"Doesn't matter, at least it won't hurt you that much when I walk away, it'll probably hurt me more." You started to walk away leaving him as confused as ever, how could you know he broke up with her if he only told one person?

"I suggest you try to take off your mask before it's too late, Ashton, wouldn't want to have to run away and have it fall of." You stopped in your tracks turning to him.

"Speaking of masks," you looked him in the eyes," I would appreciate it if you would give mine back."

And with that you walked away.
