My name is June. I am 17 years old and I am a nerd. I love learning. Especially math. Man, how I love equations and numbers. Anyways, I was walking to school one school morning. I walk alone, as usual. I enter my school and mind my own business. My first class is math! I enter the room and sit in my seat.
"Look what the cat dragged in." I heard people say.
"Come on guys, she's too big for a cat to drag her in." A boy said followed by the girls laughter. I just ignored them, like I usually do.
"Okay class settle down now." The teacher said barely walking in to the classroom. Yes, that's me. I'm the one who gets bullied. Mostly by a lot of things. Like my weight, my physical appearance, my nationality, and yes, my brains. I mean, I don't see why, but they do. But that all doesn't bother me, sometimes.
"What's the rule for the surface area of a sphere?" The teacher asked. I raised my hand. "June."
"The surface area of a sphere is 4 pi r squared or 4 times 3.14 times the radius squared." I answered.
"Correct." The teacher said writing it down on the white board.
"Loser." Whispered someone behind me. I ignored them. The door opened and a boy and the councilor walked in.
"Mr. G, this is Dana Vaughns. He will be joining your class for the rest of the year." The councilor explained.
"Good. Hello Mr. Vaughns. Just pick an empty seat." The teacher instructed. The boy smiled and picked a seat near the bullying crowd. I have a feeling that he is going to become like them. Well, I'll probably get used to him like the others.
It was getting close to the end of the class, and as usual, I already finished my homework.
"Mr. Vaughns, can I speak to you for a moment?" asked Mr. G. The boy stood up and walked to his desk. I looked at them while they were in a conversation. Mr. G pointed in my direction and the boy looked at me. I quickly looked away. I looked back up when I was in the clear. The boy smiled and Mr. G also did. The boy was going back to his seat and Mr. G returned back to his work. That was weird. Why did he point in my direction? He probaly was pointing at someone behind me. Yeah, that's it.
The bell rang. I gathered my stuff and got up from my seat. Before I could leave the room, I heard my name.
"June!" I heard. I turned around and saw the new kid run towards me. Wait? Me?! Why?!
"Mr. G asked me to ask you if you can tutor me since I missed like the whole year. So do you think you can?" He asked.
"Um...I guess. Yeah." I stuttered.
"Great. Bye then." He said walking away.
"Bye." I said heading the opposite direction. He seems nice. I walked into my second period class, English. I went to the back of the class where I sat next to my friend. Yep, I got friends, well friend. I'm not a complete loner.
"Hey." I said to her.
"Hey." She replied. Her name was Alexa. She was shy and smart. But she got distracted a lot and she does not like math at all. Which is sad.
"Ooooo, look at that guy over there." She said. Did I mention she is obsessed with boys? Well, she is. She has like 5 to 7 crushes on different boys. Famous or non-famous. We are so different, but we are best friends. Anyways, she pointed to the boy from earlier. And again, he sat near my bullies. I let out a small sigh. The teacher walked in, we called her Mrs. U. She came from the Bronx, New York, and she's a bit strict.
"Okay class. Today, we will just be working on our projects. June, may I speak with you for a moment?" She asked. I got up from my seat and walked to her desk.
"Yes Mrs. U?"
"Is it okay if Dana Vaughns joins you and Alexa in your project? I just trust you to help him out." I thought about it? Really?
"Um...I guess. But he has to know what we are doing first."
"I guess your right. I'll explain everything to him, but will you?"
"Yes. Mrs. U." I said a little bit scared to say no. Yeah, I was scared. Great, just great. The teacher nodded. For the rest of the class period, Alexa and I worked on our project.
The bell rang. I packed up and waited for Alexa. I was stopped by the new kid....again.
"I'll meet you in the cafeteria." Alexa told me with a smirk. I glanced at her and she left.
"Hey so, where should we meet for my math session?" He asked.
"Um, maybe my house or your house?" I suggested.
"My house I guess." He said. I smiled and nodded. "We should exchanged numbers so I can text you my address."
"Okay." I said awkwardly. I gave him my number and he gave me his.
"Great! Thanks! See you after school." He said with a smile.
"Okay, see ya." I said walking away. Oh boy!
__________________________________________After a hard day of school, I walked home. It started raining. And I mean raining. I didn't have a sweater or jacket nor an umbrella. Just my luck! I walked up the hill. Than, it seemed like the rain stopped but only over me. I looked up and saw a jacket. I looked to my side and saw the new kid.
"I thought you might need some help." He said with a smile.
"Oh, thank you. Dana right?" I asked.
"Yep, that's me. So do you live close by?" He asked.
"Yeah, just down the road." I said pointing. He nodded. He walked me all the way to my house.
"Thanks, you didn't have too." I said.
"Are we still on for later?" He asked.
"Yeah." I said.
"Good, I'll text you my address. I got to get going, bye." He said waving.
"Okay, bye. And thanks again." I said while he walked away. I went inside and changed my clothes. Seconds later, I got a text from Dana of his address. I smiled to myself, gathered my things and headed out the door. Luckily, it stopped raining.
