After Izuku was fully healed, Toga and him were both arrested. They were maximum security prisoners, so Sero wasn't allowed to visit. He could send letters though, but he never got one back.
Of course, that didn't matter after a few weeks. Someone broke them out. They weren't even there a full month before they were gone without a trace. He didn't even try to contact Sero.
Sero didn't actually hear from him for about six months afterwards. Until one day he received a letter addressed to 'Tape Boy' with a little heart.
Couldn't risk coming to see you in person, that's the first place they're looking for me. I wish I could have though, I miss you like crazy.
Jail was weird. Basically just the compound but quieter.
Obviously dad was the one who broke us out, he was fucking pissed about it to. Kept saying he couldn't believe we were dumb enough to get caught. Didn't seem to care I nearly DIED, but ok I guess.
I've spent the last six months with my head down and barely leaving the compound. Too many people want me arrested out there and too many want me dead in here. It's a lose lose right now. Which is why I'm writing. Didn't want to die without talking to you again.
I'm trying to kill him, my dad. No clue if it'll work, but your teacher, Eraserhead, wants to help. Ran into him a month or so after I broke out. He tried to arrest me, but failed, obviously I'm way too good for him. We ended up talking and he wants my dad gone just as much as I do.
By the time you get this, I'll either be dead or the head of my dad's organization. Either way, I doubt we'll see each other again, at least not for a really long time.
I love you, Hanta Sero.
As you can imagine, Sero was an absolute wreck. His friends couldn't get him to leave his room for five days, and even then he barely talked, barely ate, didn't react to much of anything. The boy was an empty shell.
It took a while and a lot of hard work, but eventually Ashido, Kaminari, Kirishima, and even Bakugou, were able to slowly pull him back. The hurt never fully went away, but he eventually learned to live with it. He started to move on.
Class 1-A eventually became 2-A, then 3-A, and eventually graduated. They were all well on their way to becoming amazing pro heroes.
After graduation, Sero ended up joining up with his old homeroom teacher, Aizawa, becoming one of the man's first sidekicks (he despised working with others). Everyone was a little shocked when Sero said he wanted to be an underground hero, but he was dead set on it.
Ashido, on the other hand, was scarily determined to get him dating again. He hadn't even considered it since their first year and now that they were in their twenties, she seemed to be setting him up on a different blind date every week. He'd go, just to satisfy her. Nothing ever stuck, he rarely even went on second dates, but she seemed pleased he was even entertaining the idea.
It was on his walk home from one of those dates when a figure raced past him. It was dark and they were wearing all black, so Sero barely even saw them.
But he saw the pro hero that was trailing behind them.
He wasn't on the clock, but this pro learly wasn't suited for a foot chase through an unlit urban area. He quickly shrugged off his jacket so he was just in a short sleeved button up and chased after the two. He quickly caught up with the pro.
"Need some help?" he asked with a cheeky smile.
The pro let out a breath of relief, obviously recognizing him. "Oh thank god, I've been chasing this guy for blocks and he just keeps pulling ahead!"
Sero nodded backwards. "Waiting at the main street, I got this."
"Thanks so much, Cellophane!"
It didn't take long for Sero to catch up with the mystery criminal (in hindsight he probably should have asked why he was being chased). He didn't fail to notice that the man seemed to slow down, just a fraction, when Sero was the only one after him.
Vague recognition for the streets they were now on nudged at Sero's mind, but he pushed it away. He didn't have time to try and figure out why he recognized the run down street.
The person he was chasing started up a fire escape, quicker and more agile than Sero realized he was capable of. He watched him go up, looking for the best way to follow. In the end he just shot his tape up and grabbed onto the top rail, hauling himself up. He landed on the roof a few seconds after the other man.
In a matter of moments, Sero had the man on the ground, his knees digging into his back as he restrained the wiggling man. "Nice night to run from pro heroes, huh?"
The criminal below him laughed loudly, surprising Sero slightly. He almost let him go.
"What's your name?" Sero asked, regaining his grip.
The man gave a slight tug, testing out Sero's hold. "I have a few."
"Your real one would be preferred," Sero said back, pushing him harder into the ground when he tugged a little too hard.
The man scoffed. "But it's one of my least favorites."
Sero rolled his eyes, not in the mood do deal with this criminal. It was late and he just wanted to go home. "Fine, what's your favorite then?"
"Guess."
"Oh my fucking god," Sero mumbled under his breath. "Dude, I'm really not in the mood for games."
"Aw, c'mon Hana, play with me."
Sero's breath hitched. "What? What did you just call me?"
The only people who had ever called him that were Hina and...
"Jesus, you're gonna snap my wrist-"
Sero instantly loosened his iron grip. He hadn't even realized how hard he was gripping him.
"This reunion would be much more heart warming if you'd get off of me," he pointed out, wiggling again.
Sero jumped off him like he'd been burned (he hadn't). "Iz- Izuku?"
Izuku sat up, pushing his hood off his head and letting his green curls bounce around his face. He looked different, a bit more filled out, like he'd finally grown into his body. His hair was the exact same, hadn't even changed the cut. His eyes were the same vibrant green that seemed to stand out, even in the dark. The only difference was the long scar going down the right one.
"Hey tape boy."
