Niki ran as fast as she could. She was already a day past the day she should have been back at the house with Jack, but there were so many trees down and pinned zombies, she just couldn't get through it as quickly as she wished she could.

She pushed past a deranged looking corpse as it grabbed at her legs. She wanted to cry. She hasn't slept in a long time, and she really misses the others.

She wants to, no, needs to continue this journey to find her brother. She can't abandon him, not again. Not like she did before.

Leaving home and not coming back, that shit isn't right. She sent him money, she thought she did everything right. But now all she does is regret it.

She ran out of food and water yesterday, and she refuses to take a break. She's almost there..just a little longer..she just needs to run a little faster!

She hurdled over a tree, seeing the house she hates in the distance. She always felt trapped there. Like she didn't belong.

I'm almost there Jack, she thinks to herself. She encouraged her body to keep moving, to keep going.

Long strides helped her get to the front door.

She examined the house, the lawn, how it was still intact. The storm did a little damage but it wasn't as bad as she expected.

She slowly made her way to the side walk that led to the front door. There weren't any cars in the driveway, she suspected the house was no longer a home.

Still, she twisted the door handle, locked. This struck hope in her. She honestly didn't know what to do from there. She knew her grandmother kept a spare key under a porch flower pot, so she checked there.

As she lifted the pot, the glint of something mettle peaked from underneath.

She smirked and picked up the key, to easy, she thought. Her kid brother was a genius with technology, but not so much a genius with life skills.

She put the key into the perfectly shaped lock and twisted. The door creaked open, an unsettling feeling filled her stomach.

Nerves and anxiety fueled every step she took in entering the house, and when the door was fully open, she saw how everything was the same.

The layout, the pictures on the wall, the ugliest wallpaper ever to exist. It was all still there.

Now she needed to know for sure, if her brother was still there.

"Jack?" She called out softly, her voice cracked as it escaped her dry mouth. She cringed at how desperate she sounded.

The house stirred to the sound that was emitted. Like it hasn't had a sound in years. Niki worried, if her brother was here, he wasnt himself. Himself meaning alive.

She took a single step into the house and heard a tick. She new what the sound was caused by without even looking down, trip wire.

She smirked, Jack would play pranks all the time when they were little. He used to get into so much trouble, she thought.

A little ding went off in the back corner of the house. That area was very close to the basement. She didn't dare go into the basement as a child. She feared the horrid creatures that lurked in the dark.

Without moving her legs, she obsevered the house carefully for more traps her brother might have set.

Like clockwork, she heard a loud thud coming from the area of the ding. Then more and more loud thuds hitting the ground.
