"Ari."  Kiara's voice sounded cheery, much different to the sadness that had been laced in her sound a week earlier at The Wreck.

"Kiara?" Aria's spoke into the phone, hiding the hint of surprise in her tone at the sudden and unexpected call.

She hit the speaker button and placed her phone on her kitchen counter as she moved around the small space, making herself a cup of tea.

She paused at the lack of noise from her phone, wondering if she'd accidentally hung up.

"Kie?" She cursed at herself, unsure whether or not she had the familiarity with Kiara yet to be allowed to call her Kie. Sure she'd introduced herself like that, but you never know. Aria mentally slapped herself as Kiara continued to talk, seemingly unbothered.

"Yeah?" Kiara responded.

Aria scrunched her brows in confusion, moving towards her phone and picking it up. "You called me?"

"Oh yes. Right. Sorry." There was a momentary pause on her end. "When i gave you my number i really thought you'd call me more instead of that one time you asked about shifts."

The Covelli girl could hear the smile in her new friends voice, resulting in a smile on her own face.

"I called you twice, remember?"

"Both times were about shifts, so i counted them as one." Kiara chuckled lightly.

Another pause. Aria bit her lip in thought, placing the phone down again as she continued to make her tea.

"I just wanted to apologise for last week.." Anxiousness laced Kie's tone. "It was really unprofessional and had nothing to do with you, you shouldn't have had to be there."

Aria leant against the refrigerator, sipping her tea in thought. "It's okay Kiara. I kind of sensed there was a history there."

"No. It's not okay. Rafe's a dick, he shouldn't have spoken to you like that. He's not even allowed inside the Diner, he only came because dad was out."

Her tea burned the back of her throat and tongue, yet she didn't wait for it to cool and continued to drink. "It isn't your fault Kiara-"

"Kie. Nobody calls me Kiara."

Aria couldn't help the grin, plastered over her face. She knew where Kie had gotten that interrupting streak from.

"I wanted to make it up to you." Kiara's voice sounded somewhat excited, sparking Aria'a curiosity. "We have a layover shift together tonight, afterwards we can go down the beach, bring some fries, if you want."

Aria grinned wickedly, it had been a long time since anyone had ever gone out of their way to do something for her, to hang out with her, to make her happy. It felt good.

"Yeah. It sounds perfect."

"Pope and JJ might come down, they're like seagulls with free food-" Kiara rambled on as Aria listened happily.

The brunette placed her phone beside her on the floor as she sat down, coolness from the fridge pressed against her back.

Pope and JJ. She cocked her head slightly. Weird names.

She frowned slightly as her mind raced, the trio seemed to run deep, a strong bond she didn't share. She didn't want to thrust herself in the middle of that, she didn't want Kie to feel obliged to keep her entertained.

"-depends if Pope's working. That good?"

"What?" Aria's voice cracked, she had completely zoned out.
