Waves are crashing.

Magical projectiles accelerate through the air.

The cries of men and women can be heard from all around.

Humanity is fighting a war on all fronts against the denizens of the seas.

The merfolk lived in harmony with humans long ago. Both species traded and had many interactions together. Humans learned and gathered a lot of trinkets that would have never been discovered by them. Mermaids discovered human practices and started adopting variations of such practices that would accommodate their aquatic nature. All was well until the Empress, Raina, decided that humanity had to be extinguished in order for her subjects to survive. Humanity has started to grow at a tremendous rate as they have reached the hundreds of millions by the Middle Ages and outnumbered her people 1000 to 1. Raina was concerned that humanity would grow to the point that they would doom themselves and the planet due to overpopulation. She decided that the only way this issue could be solved was to eliminate the human race. She assumed that it would be an easy victory for the merfolk as humans were weak and did not possess magic.

It turns out that humans are much more resilient than she made them out to be.

On the southern shore of England, all hell has broken loose. Ships out in the English Channel were being sunk by tridents, spears and magical bolts being hurled at them. Mermaids and mermen were pulling sailors into their watery depths. The shores were not spared either. Violent clashes were occuring between soldiers who were brave enough to venture further in the beaches and confident mermaids who took a gamble with taking the fight to the shoreline. Those who didn't want to be on the receiving end of tridents decided to use the land to their advantage by firing arrows and as it was their best counterpart to the mermaid's magic. The water turned as red as the red on the English flag. Ships were burning and bodies littered the shore.

Inside a fort set up near the beach, a general was looking at a map of the beaches and planning his course of action. He looked outside the window and saw the chaos unfolding. Thousands of his best men were being slaughtered before his very eyes. He rubbed his head at the sight of such horror. When suddenly the door slammed open.

"General! She's ready to be interrogated,"

He looked up at the visitor, "I'll be right there. She better have some information that we could use," He then followed the soldier down into the dungeons.

They then approached a hallway which led to their captive. A live mermaid. She was thrashing around in her watery cage and sneering at the two guards watching over her. They opened the gates and approached the container holding her.

"You know General, I never thought I would get to see a mermaid up close. She's mesmerizing just to look at," the soldier accompanying the general commented.

The mermaid they had in captivity had luscious, long and black flowing hair that covered her ample breasts which complemented her fair complexion. Her tail was covered with elegant, white scales that reflected the sunlight that entered the room which also ended with a translucent caudal fin as well as pelvic fins where her hips would be. She possessed 3 slits on each side of her neck that were releasing bubbles as she was breathing and staring at the general. The general looked with interest at the mermaid before starting the interrogation.

"What is your name, young maiden?"

The mermaid looked suspiciously at him before replying, "Why should I trust a human like you? You caused thousands of my kind to die!" She then banged the container holding her.
