"That sounds really dangerous," Emily mentally said in her mind.

She was actually telepathically communicating to Amara at the moment. Humanity experienced a huge culture shock due to the fact that a lot of their technology was not suited to be underwater for longer periods of time. Basic everyday habits such as using a phone were a thing of the past. The merfolk, on the other hand, despite being somewhat primitive as compared to the humans in terms of science and technology, possessed magic, which humans never even thought existed. Thankfully the merfolk had an ability that was essentially their equivalent to phone calls where they can just telepathically talk with anyone they want. The receiver can choose to respond to the telepathic call or ignore it, much like a call from a phone. Merfolk who encountered former humans across the world were able to teach them how to use this innate ability. Despite having this very convenient ability, the royals of each kingdom prefer to have conversations in person, partly due to the fact that the telepathic calls don't feel the same and aren't as meaningful as physical interactions.

Amara was telling Emily about the adventure she was about to embark on and she couldn't contain her excitement. Emily however, didn't exactly share the same sentiment.

"It might be, or it might not be. I won't know until I'm in the middle of it. Plus, I'm not passing up the opportunity to hang out with this really hot guy!" Amara joyfully said, not caring about Emily's concerns.

"Look, I'm just concerned about you, alright. You can't just immediately get attracted to every hot person you meet. Who knows if he's a psychopath and you don't even realize it because you're so distracted with his attractiveness!" Emily said in a serious tone.

"Em, you gotta chill. He's literally the perfect guy. Infact, I sometimes have a hard time not thinking about the "fun" times we could have together," Amara retorted.

Emily was weirded out by what she just heard. Was Amara being serious right now? "That's... pretty weird, you know. You're not even an adult yet and you're thinking of THAT?!"

"I know it sounds weird when you put it like that but I promise I'll keep control of myself. He doesn't seem to be the type to lay a finger on me without my consent," Amara quickly said in her defense.

Emily felt like there was more to Rodrigo than meets the eye. "Too good to be true," she thought to herself. "Look, I think it would be better if I came with you guys. The more the merrier, right?" she said in a concerned tone.

"Em, please. You know I can handle myself. Remember the time where I scared off this tough guy who was catcalling us at the pool?" Amara said since she knew she was capable of being independent and she just wanted the adventure to be between her and Rodrigo.

"You literally whacked him in the head with a pool net. I'm pretty sure anyone would run off if they got hit in the head," Emily said in a deadpan tone.

"My point is, I can totally handle myself out there. I get to have my legs back and Rodrigo is a licensed officer. He could protect me from anything. It's a win-win," Amara said.

Emily sighed. She knew Amara for a while and she knows she can be stubborn at times. This conversation was one of those times. She decided to say one final thing in hopes to change Amara's mind, "Aren't you content with your new self? I mean, you have so much more freedom as a mermaid and it's a wonderful feeling under the sea,"

Amara paused at that. Emily did have a point. She was already pretty used to being a mermaid but some part deep inside missed having legs and the feeling of walking. Part of herself was telling her to listen to Emily's advice. Another part of her also was telling her that it would be better if Emily did not join them so she wouldn't be at risk. Rodrigo was only one person after all. It would be pretty difficult to protect two teenage mermaids like themselves at the same time. As a bonus, she would have Rodrigo's companionship all to herself. She made her choice at that thought.
