Ranboo closed his eyes, and breathed in deeply.

He ran a shaky hand through his hair, and opened his eyes again to see the twenty round tables, all filled with inquiring eyes. Tubbo and Tommy were out there.

And then, the piano.

Ranboo internally willed himself to not freeze up now. He'd come this far, he couldn't chicken out now. Besides, his friends were in the audience. He couldn't let them down, no matter how much he wanted to run off the stage and cry in the bathroom.

He adjusted the mic. This would be fine. He steadied his breathing, shook out his hands, and began to sing.

"It's not simple to say; Most days, I don't recognize me. These shoes, and this apron, that place and it's patrons, have taken more than I gave them."

Ranboo's eyes were shut softly. He could sense the stardust collecting. Oh, how he loved the feeling.

"It's not easy to know; I'm not anything like I used to be. Although it's true, I was never attention's sweet center, I still remember that girl."

Ranboo opened his eyes, making a split second of eye contact with Tubbo before continuing to sing. He grinned.

"She's imperfect, but she tries. She is good, but she lies." Deep breath. "She is hard on herself, she is broken and won't ask for help."

This song hit so different, gods. Ranboo adjusted the mic. Another deep breath.

"She is messy, but she's kind. She is lonely, most of the time, she is all of this mixed up, and baken in a beautiful pie. She is gone, but she used to be mine."

The second half of the song was going to be awesome. The belting, the strong notes- it just felt so freeing to sing, and usually ended up with Ranboo in tears. Judging by the fact that he was already tearing up from singing the less sad part, this was going to be great.

"It's not what I asked for, sometimes life just slips in through a back door, and carves out a person who makes you believe it's all true. And now I've got you."

Now, Ranboo let his voice get stronger, less quiet and more- he didn't really know what the word would be. It was definitely stronger, though. He loved this part.

"And you're not what I asked for. If I'm honest I know, I would give it all back for a chance, to start over, to rewrite an ending or two, for the girl that I knew."

Deep breath. The stardust was like a cloud, like a wall. Ranboo felt as if he was in his own little world, where nothing mattered but the song. He loved this feeling so much, gods.

"Who'd be reckless, just enough. Who can hurt, but who learns how to toughen up when she's bruised, and gets used by a man who can't love. And then she'll get stuck, and be scared of the life that's inside her, growing stronger each day, till it finally reminds her; to fight just a little, to bring back the fire in her eyes."

Deep breath. Calm hands. Breath in, breathe out. Ranboo kept his eyes closed.

"That's been gone, but it used to be mine~!" Ranboo belted, trying not to let the strain get through and succeeding. He loved this, god. If he had to spend the rest of his life in one moment, a candidate would undoubtedly be this. It was amazing.

"Used to be mine~!"

Ranboo smiled softly, catching Tubbo's eyes and noticing solely the spark in them, the adoration.

Holy shit, Ranboo was about to cry.

"She is messy, but she's kind. She is lonely, most of the time, she is all of this mixed up, and baked, in a beautiful pie." A breath. "She is gone, but she used to be mine~."

Silence.

And then applause.

Ranboo wiped the tears forming in his eyes away, trying not to start sobbing on that stage in front of all those people, all those people staring at him and whistling and clapping and oh lord Ranboo just did that-

"Thank you," He said into the mic, offering a small wave to the cheering audience before slipping backstage and bursting into tears.

They weren't sad or disappointed tears, but they weren't happy tears either. They were just-

Tears.

That wouldn't stop.

This happened to Ranboo sometimes after a really good performance, he'd give the singing his all and then collapse like a damn souffle when he was backstage. Back when he did theater groups, he'd joke with his friends that it was because all the stardust had gotten in his eyes. He smiled faintly through his tears, letting out a little chuckle.

There was no one else backstage, surprisingly, or at least no one where Ranboo was. Well, at least there wouldn't be an overwhelming amount of people asking if he was okay. That had happened once, although they weren't tears like these ones. He didn't remember specifically what show it'd been, just that he felt like the performance had gone terribly. He'd emerged from backstage with his face tear-streaked, and everyone had been making a huge deal of it and it was awful.

"Boob boy!" A rough voice called excitedly, and Ranboo turned his head. A fluttering Tommy squeezed Ranboo into a huge hug, laughing. "King, that was awesome! Since when could you sing like that, holy fucking shit!"

"Thanks, Tommy," Ranboo chuckled, hiccuping in between words.

"Boo, why are you crying?" Tubbo said, taking Ranboo's hand. "That was awesome, just so you know. I've never heard you sing like that." Tubbo smiled softly, leaning his head on his friend's shoulder. Poor Tubbo had barely slept the last few days, he had really bad jet-lag.

"I honestly have no idea why I'm crying, I just-" He hiccuped. "Just started crying, I guess. And thanks, I guess you wouldn't have heard me sing like that."

"Yeah."

"Okay, but why was that so good?!" Tommy exclaimed, pacin a bit. "I mean, you've sung jokingly before and there's never even been a hint of you having such a strong voice, and also I love Sara Bareilles did you know that?"

"Toms, your theater kid side is showing," Ranboo joked, lightly hitting his friend's arm.

"Well I'm sorry you got me hyped up! What am I supposed to do?!"

Ranboo and Tubbo just laughed.

"Fuck you!" Tommy laughed, face flushed. "I did nothing to you. This is all your fault, boob boy."

"Fine, fine."

There was a comfortable silence.

"Can we get food?" Tubbo asked.

The trio's laughter seemed to make the stardust glow.
