Rai opened his eyes and sucked in a deep breath. He pushed his hair out of his eyes as he looked at his little brother lying on the hospital bed with medical equipment all-over.
Rai stood up from the chair with dread. He held his brother’s right hand and said with undeniable courage and conviction “I will find a way to free you from this deadly prison, I will save you even if I get you there myself. I promise” Rai released a deep sigh and continued “Just please don’t die.”
With a defeated sigh, he picked up the remote on the side of the bed and turned on the TV to the morning news channel as he straightened himself.
“…Fans from all over Japan gathered as the event and the rumoured to be the one and only first virtual game in history turned into a prison for ten thousand people! As the scene that many have confessed to be the most anticipated game become a terrifying death game.”
Rai was not surprised as he watched the news reporter become agitated from the shown footage. ARGUS was one of the small companies a few years back, and become the leading companies with the help of Dr. Kayaba Akihiko; the renowned prodigy who designed and created Sword Art Online, a true genius in quantum physicist.
Dressed in his yesterday office clothing (a white polo with navy blue tie matched by his black pants and leather black shoes) he finally took out his phone from his pants pocket. Rai dialled the number of Kentaro Yamada and braced for the upcoming consequential decision.
“Hello” said Yamada.
“Yamada remember what we were talking about yesterday?” said Rai with stuttering voice.
“What about it?” replied Yamada
“Is it still possible for me to help you, NO! What I meant is that I want to help you” demanded Rai
“Is it about your little brother?” said Yamada with sinister tone.
“Yes. Please, help me. I want to help my little brother, I want to free him” said Rai full of eagerness.
“Excellent” replied Yamada with full of excitement “I want you to go to the lab, you will find me in room G12 storage” Yamada continued.
“Got it” replied Rai with full of vigour.
Rai followed Yamada’s orders to the letter and went to ARGUS Company Lab. With his aggravated behaviour he now confronted Yamada in room G12 storage area.
“Ahem,” someone cough. The owner of the cough was a Japanese man. He wore a very nice brown suit underneath his white lab coat.
“Kentaro Yamada!” yelled Rai.
Yamada stood in the center of a large room with his wavy black hair with a little grey shade on both sides and eye glasses that stared intently towards Rai.
“Welcome, Raifael Laurenfrost” Yamada said politely “Rai I ask you this, are you prepared in challenging the world that Kayaba created?” Yamada continued with demanding tone.
“Yes, I am prepared, even if I have to come inside the game myself” said Rai showing his bravado.
“Excellent, excellent” replied Yamada while smiling “Let the games begin” roared Yamada with full of enthusiasm and vigour.
“Please step this way” said Yamada while leading Rai towards a large silver capsule-like nerve gear. Rai followed Yamada’s instructions and walk slowly towards the silver capsule machine. The helmet automatically lowered onto his head, its visor blocked his vision.
Rai strapped himself inside a capsule type nerve gear with medical equipment on his left side.
“Among the ten thousand nerve gear that uses Virtual Engine you will be using the most and greatest of them. The prototype nerve gear, which will measure how well you integrate into the virtual world.” Explained Yamada “You will use this to login inside the Sword Art Online,” Yamada continued “Remember Rai this a one way ticket, if you login inside the game you will never be able to logout until you beat the game, and the rules of the game also apply to you. Means you will die if your Health Points reach zero” added Yamada.
“I understand but I was told that the prototype has some side effects and sometimes can cause brain damage” Rai protested with a face full of uneasiness.
“Rest assured, you are safe” explained Yamada “that was just a false pretence to prevent the company in stopping the funding of the Full Dive project” Yamada continued.
Yamada explained in full detail before starting the full dive, to prevent Rai from panicking and regarding him with confident and reassuring smile.
“What will I do, once I’m inside the game?” Rai asked full of confusion.
“You will be finishing the game from floor one all the way to floor one hundred” replied Yamada.
“WHAT!” Rai let out a loud shout unconsciously “How am I going to finish the game if I don’t even have any experience in playing it?” Rai continued with an appearance full of disbelief.
“Don’t worry, I know you help made the semantics of the game with me and Kayaba, and also Kayaba made ten unique skills inside the game and he made a program that let the system chose the player worthy of having it” explained Yamada with a wide smirk.
“What if I wasn’t chosen by the system?” Rai asked.
“I’m glad you asked. I created my own two unique skills that you can use inside the game” Yamada explained full of enthusiasm “first is the dual wield, Sword and Dagger. Which allows you to use the speed and accuracy of the dagger skills and characteristics and a sword that permits the use of the abilities and features such as devastating blows and tenacious blocks and parry” explained Yamada.
“Wow, that’s amazing” Rai said showing his astonishment “Will that really help me in surviving inside the game?” Rai continued.
“Yes, but if the first unique skill is still not enough, there is still the other one; the Millennium Canvas” explained Yamada.
“Millennium Canvas” muttered Rai in a low voice.
“Okay is the explanation enough, we should start now before Kayaba noticed the back door program I installed inside the game” explained Yamada.
“Agreed” replied Rai
“I almost forgot, be careful and don’t die” said Yamada in the last minute.
“I will survive” replied Rai
“Link Start” said Rai with full of vitality.
The nerve gear made a soft humming noise indicating that it was about to start. A light ping sound can be heard at the same time a notification window appeared in his visor.
