ACT I — CHAPTER XVI
Tʜᴇ Tʀᴀɢᴇᴅʏ Aᴛ Tʜᴇ Mɪɴᴇs

The Spellmans had been practically walking on glass around Lydia ever since the night before. Currently, she was watching The Sound of Music with Sabrina and Ambrose in the parlor, but none of them were really paying attention.

"Bacon, cousins?" Ambrose asked, waving a plate of bacon in front of the twins. Lydia vigorously shook her head.

"No, thanks. I don't think I'll ever be able to eat meat again," Lydia told him.

"After what we saw yesterday, I am fasting. Maybe for the rest of my life," Sabrina added, "but definitely until later tonight."

Ambrose sat down onto the couch across from the twins, shrugging and eating the bacon himself.

"Any plans for today?" Ambrose asked.

"After Harvey's shift, we're going to the movies," Sabrina answered.

"How casually you can say that," Ambrose sighed. Lydia rolled her eyes.

"Well, I'll be spending the whole day with you, right here watching movies," Lydia told him. Ambrose smiled at her.

"Well, I appreciate the company, cousin," Ambrose said, "but, in good news, Luke and I will soon be able to go out to the movies as well."

Ambrose had been "seeing" another warlock named Luke for the past few weeks. Luke was friends with someone who had died and the Spellman Mortuary had hosted the funeral, which is how they met. Sometimes he would spend the night, other times Ambrose would astral-project to see him.

"How so?" Lydia asked. Ambrose sat up in his seat.

"Luke has a connection with the High Priest. He's offered to speak with Father Blackwood on my behalf to get my conviction overturned," Ambrose explained, grinning like there was no tomorrow.

"Ambrose, you're smitten," Sabrina teased, a smile on her face.

Seeing Ambrose so happy made Lydia feel a lot better. It didn't make her want to be productive, though.

However, it didn't seem as if she would have a choice, as Zelda suddenly burst into the room.

"Where's your Aunt Hilda?" she asked, slightly frantic.

"She's working at the bookstore, Aunt Zee," Sabrina answered, "Remember, it's Black Friday."

"It most certainly is not!" Zelda cried.

"She doesn't mean witches' Black Friday, she means the mortal one," Lydia elaborated, "It's just a big shopping fest where everything is on sale."

"It's also one of our busiest times," Zelda said as the phone rang. She walked over to answer it, saying, "The Kemper bodies are already on their way, and Satan knows who else. Spellman Mortuary, this is Zelda."

Zelda answered the phone as Lydia laid her head back against the couch. She closed her eyes and sighed silently. So much for a relaxing day.

"No, we hadn't heard."

Lydia's head shot up, seeing the shocked and worried look on Zelda's face. She gulped, nervous as to what was happening on the other side of the line. Zelda held her hand over the transmitter of the phone.

"Sabrina, Lydia, there's been an accident at the mines," Zelda breathed out. Lydia sat up in her seat, while Sabrina fully stood up.

"But Harvey —"
