They lived in Beirut when they developed their own signs for each other, despite the many years of living on earth very few of the Eternals understood sign language or could 'speak' it themselves. Which in the end made it easier for Druig and Makkari to keep their relationship under wraps.

They ended up developing their own private signs for each other most meaning 'love' or 'girlfriend/boyfriend' which is what they referred to each other as most of the time even in front of the other Eternals, but still, none of them seemed to notice more focused on themselves or figuring out what was happening with Thena and Gilgamesh instead of the quietest members of the team calling each other love instead of their names.

Druig POV:

We were walking down the hall together to the common area of the temple we were staying in when I started hearing raised voices that seemed to be debating a topic I was unsure of, I turned to Makkari assuming she had already felt the vibrations of their voices. We walked in to see Sersi our resident romantic, and Gilgamesh having a debate about whether Thena and he were a couple.

"We aren't a couple Sersi, just because you seek romance in everything doesn't mean that every pairing of people are in a relationship." He stated quite angrily, I could understand why he was so frustrated with her, she always tried to pair people up despite their feelings and always tried to find the romance even if there wasn't any. She never asked Makkari or me, but she doesn't know sign and I swear sometimes forgets I exist, so we were always spared from that conversation.

We continue watching the debate go down, eventually, Sersi turns to leave obviously fed up with Gilgamesh denying her OTP when she sees us standing in the corridor watching. "What are you two up to?" she asks trying to think about something else

"We are ok" I respond plainly

"We don't speak much; I wish we got to more" She continues oblivious as to why we don't talk

"Well, Makkari has trouble communicating with the rest of you and I'm not much of a people person" I reply annoyed at her arrogance

"Oh, well, I wish I could communicate with Makkari," she says picking up on my annoyed tone

I wish you would take the time out of your 'busy day' to learn as well Makkari replies hiding her anger better than I am. I stifle a laugh at her comment and Sersi's confused face

"She may be deaf, but she can understand you," I say to the stunned Sersi

"well, what did she say?"

"She said how sad she was that you couldn't understand her as well" I explain

That's not what I said

It's the nicer version love

She doesn't need to hear the nice version Druig she needs to be able to understand my frustration

That is very true, would you like me to translate word for word?

Yes please love

As Sersi continues looking at us like we are aliens I speak again "Makkari actually said I quote 'I wish you would take the time out of your busy day to learn as well"

"Well that is just uncalled for, learning a new language is hard and I have a busier schedule than either of you" she responds defensively, I look at her with anger but before I can go off at her Makkari taps my arm stopping me and instead going off at her by herself.

How dare you, I put up with not being able to understand you every day and you can't have taken a couple of months out of our centuries on this planet to learn a simple language for one of your family members. The only reason I can ever understand you is because of the vibrations and Druig or did you never notice that he is constantly signing so I can understand every conversation or were you too busy trying to get Ikaris' attention to notice we have been in a relationship for years. And how dare you say that you have a busier schedule than we do, I fight the deviants every day alongside Druig and the others and what do you do? Turn sand to stone and back, talk to the children? Shut up.

I translate every word in its entirety except the relationship part she didn't need to be the one to know that. Sersi instead stood there shocked that the 'quiet, nice Makkari' would ever say such things before she ran off assumedly in the direction of Ikaris or Ajak.

Don't you think that was a bit, harsh love? I asked afraid of the follow-up conversations we were bound to have

No, she needed to understand, they all do. she replies simply

Ok, well let's see how this plays out. I say sceptically
