A couple of weeks passed and I stood in the gardens, picking some flowers to inspire Luke's paintings. He made a good amount of money from them and surprisingly, I felt safe. No threats, no fears, no insecurity. But we didn't love each other, it was all an act in case anyone investigated further. Wasn't it?

"Alice, come here a second. I need to speak with you."

I brushed myself off and walked cautiously towards his voice. Although I'd been in this house with him for 2 months now, he was still a little unpredictable. I saw him looking in the direction I was walking.

"Yes?"

I approached him and he stepped closer towards me. I could see he had something on his mind but didn't question it. I'd learnt not to question what I didn't need to know.

"What do you like about me?"

"What?"

His question caught me off guard so I pretended not to hear it. He simply repeated it, stepping in closer.

"What do you like about me?"

He was less than a metre away and I began to speak. With each sentence, he walked closer.

"Well, the way you prey on helpless people; how you hurt them until they submit; how your hair covers your deceitful eyes; how your striking lips can tell such precious lies; how you change from aggressive to gentle and most of all, how you treat me."

At this point, I realised we were face to face. He cupped my face and brushed his lips against my own. He pulled away and sighed.

"Oh Alice, you make this harder than it has to be."

I watched him, a million thoughts clouding my mind.

"What do you mean?"

He sighed before half-smiling and patting me on the head.

"Don't worry my pet. Just stay with me and you won't need to know."
