The automatic glass doors glided open and I stepped into the front lobby of Greenwood Ltd. A small fountain stood in the centre of the grand room while the floor was all finely chiseled marble.
But it's all just for show. As soon as you arrive above the 3rd floor, it's just office blocks. The lobby is to show off and is where the newbies believe they will be working.
I walked towards the large oak desk and gave my information to access the building.
"Alice Clark, Worker #249."
The lady typed and looked up in a disapproving manner.
"Mr. Greenwood would like to see you."
All the colour drained from my face as I heard the words I had been dreading since I woke up. I simply nodded and made my way towards the elevator.
Cheery music played but it did nothing to brighten the mood. Being the only person in an elevator meant that I wasn't just late, I was massively late. Stupid alarm not waking me up, stupid stores with their stupid wine, stupid parks with their stupid children. Stupid Luke with his flowing brown hair and gorgeous accented voice. Stupid Luke with how he is so kind and funny wi-
"Ahem, Miss Clark? Something on your mind?"
I snapped away from my thoughts and looked in front of me. The doors had opened at my floor and a figure stood in the opening. It was Mr Greenwood. He stood tall and looked down on me in a caring but authoritative way.
"Oh...I'm sorry that I was la-"
"That's not why I called you here. Come with me please."
He turned and began to walk towards his office. I followed him, trying to figure out why he had called me to see him if it wasn't about being late. He sat down in his chair and I sat on the other side of the desk.
"Now Miss Clark, have you seen the papers recently?"
I shook my head, wondering why this was related.
"Ah, well a scandal with Sally Hart has been brought to the media's attention. I believe you knew her?"
"Well, yes I did. I was one of the main extras alongside her in 'Queen of the Seas'. What was the scandal?"
"Drug abuse, Miss Clark. She admitted that one of the extras supplied her."
I shook my head and smiled slightly. Mr Greenwood simply frowned, his eyebrows furrowed as he grew more concerned.
"Of course she did, she's ju-Wait, you don't think...I supplied her, did you?"
"I personally do not but the media does. You understand that this could damage the reputation of the business?"
"But I didn't-"
"I'm sorry Miss Clark, but until your name is cleared we can't hire you. We will give you a call if and when your name is cleared."
Did he just...did he just fire me?
