My phone rang and I looked at it, confused. Who could be ringing me? My mind went between answering and ignoring it. I knew if Luke was here, he would take my phone and question me. But he was busy painting...

"Hello?"

"Hello, is this Alice Clark?"

I narrowed my eyes, trying to figure out what they were ringing about. It was a male voice that sounded vaguely familiar...

"Yes...who is this?"

"This is Martin Greenwood from Greenwood Ltd. I'm ringing to inform you that your name has been cleared from the drug scandal. You may come to work as off next Monday."

"Wow, that's...that's great! Thanks."

"I'll see y-"

The phone was snatched from my hand and I quickly turned to see Luke holding my phone. He pressed 'End Call' and put the phone on the counter.

"Who was that?"

I smiled, not noticing his rising anger and hugged him.

"They've cleared my name! I'm free to work from Monday, I have my life back."

His expression lightened slightly and a small smile appeared.

"That's good. You can also bring in an income here."

I cast my eyes down to the ground.

"Actually Luke, I was hoping to move back in with my sister until I can get my own flat again."

"What? You're leaving me?"

"No, you can come too...she still thinks we are dating so if we-"

"You can't leave...you owe me everything you have."

My eyebrows furrowed in confusion and I question him.

"What? What do I owe you?"

He stepped in closer and for the first time in months, I was afraid.

"You owe me your life. You love me, why is that?"

My eyes widened and I tried to speak but I couldn't. He was right and deep down, I knew that I loved him.

"Because you are the first person to care about me who wasn't family."

"Care about you? Oh dear Alice, I never cared about you."

I gasped, his words hitting me as if he had pulled my skin away and stolen my heart.

"But all the times you-"

"Oh shut your mouth, you're here for one reason and after your struggle, I'll be glad to get rid of you."

I finally realised my purpose to him and frantically looked around for the nearest exit. I had to run or I'd pay the biggest price.

My life.
