"Caitlyn, Cayden!" I shouted up the stairs.

"Yeah Dad?"

"Which one of you left claw marks on the kitchen counter!"

"Caitlyn!" Cayden shouted,

"Cayden!" Caitlyn said back.

"Get down here." I groaned and the two kids stomped down.

"Hey don't you give me attitude." I said putting my hands on my hips.

"But it wasn't me!" They said at the same time.

"What's going on?" Liam asked me walking in from the living room.

"Someone left claw marks on the kitchen counter."

"Oh yeah sorry about that." He said and the kids burst out laughing.

"Liam!"

"What? I accidentally scraped them. No big deal." I rolled my eyes.

"You're an idiot." I said and Liam smiled.

"I'm your idiot." He pressed his lips softly to mind. Even after all these years, I still loved those lips.

"Ew!" The moment was ruined and I groaned.

"Why you little-" I pretended to chase them and they squealed running upstairs. Liam laughed.

"I can't believe you left claw marks on the counter." I said laughing.

"Hey, we all do it now and again." I smiled.

I never expected to end up in hospital.

I never expected to fall in love.

I never expected to meet my soulmate.

And I never expected to still be alive.

But I was, age 30. With two kids and the love of my life by my side. Happier than ever.

Great friends, a loving family, a new life. A life I could love. And I never took that for granted because I knew that if I did...

None of this would have been worth it. But it was.
