As I lay on a gray furry rug next to the bed, three knocks came from the door. A man walked in wearing a simple suite. His steps were heavy but calm. The very vibe this man gave off told me he wasn't Brody or Dimitri, but someone else. I brought my gaze up to his face and noticed the man was Nikolai.

As soon as I saw him tears of joy came to my eyes. Once again I had no control over my tears. As soon as he saw me he ran to my side in a panic.

"Anna, what's wrong?!" He asked worry in each word as they left his lips. Why was he worried about me? It's not like these men had any reason to care about me.

He then helped me up and sat me down on the bed gently. I couldn't speak, but I didn't need to he seemed to know exactly what to do.

He sat next to me and offered me a shoulder to cry on. I couldn't help but take him up on his offer. Thank god I did because I felt so much better as I let him comfort me. At times like this, you take what you can get. I could hear the steady beating of his heart. He was warm and comforting, I felt like no mater what would happen I could depend on him to protect me. He really was like a father. I wish my dad were like him; somehow Nikolai gave off a safe feeling even though he is a complete stranger.

"Now Anna, are you feeling better? If not feel free to rest some more." He whispered in his calm raspy Russian accent.

I shook my head and looked up to him. "No, I'm good now... Thank you." I said as I gave him a warm smile.

"That's good, I was really worried back there. "He spoke softly as he put his hand on my shoulder." Now you must be starving, lets get some food in your stomach. "He suggested before getting off the bed.

Now that he mentions it, I'm starving! As if on cue my stomach roared out and it even surprised Nikolai. He just chuckled and turned to open the door.

"Hey! Don't laugh." I wined as I ran to catch up to him.

"Wait, I almost forgot!" He exclaimed as he stopped in his tracks. "We need to get you in some new cloths, you can't go to breakfast in your uniform." He said as he fast walked over to what looked like a closet. He searched for something desperately. "I know it's in here somewhere."

"What are you looking for?" I asked as I took a few steps closer to him.

"This!" He exclaimed, pulling out a dark gray day dress. The thing went down to about knee length, and was strapless. It was super cute, but the very fact that it was in Dimitri's closet concerned me. "Here you can wear this. I'm sure you would prefer to change out of your old clothes."

"Okay thanks..." I took the dress from him then walked to the bathroom to change. Once I was done I felt a thousand times better. Let me tell you pizza delivery uniforms aren't the most comfortable things in the world.

"You look beautiful." He complemented with a warm smile.

"Thank you, both for the dress and the complement." I said as my mood changed from insecure and depressed to confident and cheery. It's true, if you look good you feel good.

"Now we are ready to go I hope?" He asked as he walked over to the door and opened it for me.

"Yup." I replied as I kinda felt like I could face Brody now.

As we walked down the hallway I tied up my morning hair into a ponytail. Now that I looked around, I really could see how grand this home was. High ceiling towered above us and long velvet curtains framed the huge windows that gave us a breathtaking view of the snowy Russian landscape. Who would have thought that mafias also enjoyed nature and the finer things in life?

The smell of food ripped me from my thoughts and we neared our next destination. My mouth watered as the very thought of food was enough to make me crazy.

You could smell bacon, eggs, toast, and even ham! I'm surprised though, do Russians normally eat foods like that in the morning. I could be wrong, but I don't see members of a mafia sitting down and eating a family breakfast like that. Dam this whole day is really causing me to second guess what a mafia is. I always thought it was large group of bloodthirsty criminals who stuck together and did as they pleased in the dark parts of civilization, not this. Could it be they are regular people who are just trying to make a living in the only ways they know? All these thoughts were mentally preparing me for breakfast until I remembered who will also be there.

The thought that Brody will be at breakfast made me want to punch him all over again. That guy will pay for touching me in such a way to make me cry. I was so caught up in my thoughts about hurting Brody that I hadn't noticed Nikolai had stopped at a pair of dark oak double doors.

"This is it, the dining hall." He informed as he shot me a grin.

He then pulled open the doors with both hands releasing the trapped sounds and smells of the dining hall. Everything from the hardy voices too the savory smells seemed to make all other thoughts magically wash away with no trace. All that was on my mind now was food.
