"Hinata is okay. The doctor said they'll have to monitor his condition, but he should be fine."
I felt like a weight had been lifted off me. He was okay. I let out a sigh of relief, and felt my muscles relax.
Sugawara also sighed. "Thanks, Daichi. We'll be there in a minute."
Suga and I quickly walked over to Hinata's room. The nurse was there. "May I know who his guardians are? Like a family member?"
I quickly searched my mind, then realised that Hinata had never mentioned his family, much less invite me over to his house. "I don't know." I said. I was shocked at myself. How could I not know? The nurse just nodded and left.
I realised how little I knew about Hinata. I knew nothing about his past with Atsumu, where he lived, who his family was.
"Hinata!" Everyone turned to face Atsumu. I clenched my fists. "Fuck off." I growled. Everyone was surprised, but I didn't care. Atsumu narrowed his eyes at me. "I'm his boyfriend, mind you." Atsumu said.
"One that drove him to suicide." I said, my teeth clenched. Sugawara and Daichi turned to face Atsumu. Daichi grabbed Atsumu's arm. "We need to talk." Sugawara quickly pushed Atsumu out of the room and left together with Daichi.
I turned back to face Hinata, carefully studying him. I realised how deep his eyebags were, how pale his skin was, and how skinny he had become. My heart ached for him.
I sat down on a chair next to his bed, and the 8 of us remaining in the room (aka Yamaguchi, Nishinoya, Tanaka, Asahi, Ennoshita, Kinoshita, and Narita) just stayed quiet.
"Visiting hours are over. Please leave now." I straightened up when I realised what time it was. "Sorry, we'll leave now." I stood up, took one last look at Hinata, then left.
Hinata's POV:
"Shoyo." Ah, another one of those dreams. I'd been having those dreams on a daily basis. They were so real that whenever I woke up, it hurt double the amount.
"Kei. I'm tired. I'm so tired. Why don't you just let me go?" I asked, sitting down and leaning on the tree. He stood in front of me. "I don't want to let you go." He said.
I played with the falling petals. Every time I came back to this place, more petals had fallen. Now, the tree was almost bare. "It's turning into winter here, it seems." I commented. Kei sat next to me, and I snuggled into him. But I knew it was fake. Everything here was fake. This Kei was fake. Everything was in my imagination.
"I hate winter." Kei said. "Why? The snow is beautiful, isn't it?" I asked.
"Everything turns bleak. Everything is covered by white and grey. Everything pretty turns dull. And it's cold. Not just outside. I feel cold inside."
"Why don't we start anew?" Kei asked. The petals on the ground suddenly started floating in the air and connected to the tree branches. One by one, the tree became "alive" again.
"How could we?" I asked. "I'm broken inside, Kei. I've broken into millions and millions of pieces. It'll be impossible for me to become whole again."
"I'll put the pieces back. Even if it'll take me 100 years, I will put you back together." Kei answered. I chuckled. "You won't live till a hundred years."
Kei smiled, and I smiled back at him. "If only this was real." I said quietly. "Who said it wasn't?" Kei countered.
"Go back to where you came from. Then it'll be real."
I shook my head. "I don't want to go back. The real world is my winter. I feel empty, like a shell." "Everything gets better one day." Kei promised. I laughed dryly. "I'm not sure about that. I've been waiting for that day for so long. I've waited enough."
"Yeah, you have. So go back and take a look at what you've been rewarded for your patience." Kei urged.
"Why're you doing this to me?" I asked. "I just want to stay here forever, with you." "Hinata, you know I'm not real. I'm just your imagination. You want the real Kei, not me." Kei smiled sadly.
"The real Kei doesn't want me, though. That's why I have to settle for you." I tugged on my sleeves. That's right. The real Kei hated me. I hated myself too.
"What can I do so that you'll go?" Kei asked. I shrugged. Probably nothing. "What if I disappear?" Kei said quietly. My eyes widened. "NO! Don't go! You're all that I have now." I pleaded.
The tree started turning to dust. "It'll be fine, I promise." Kei said, kissing my forehead slightly as his arm turned to dust. "Now go find the real Kei."
Tears rolled down my cheeks. Now I couldn't even talk to a fake Kei. Everything had turned to darkness. To reality. That I had nobody.
Now go find the real Kei.
Could I? Would he want me? All that would happen when I woke up would be pain. More pain.
"Hinata."
Who was that?
"Hinata!"
Who was calling out to me?
"HINATA!"
My eyes slowly opened.
