-------

I pulled away from Turak's grasp. Smiling up at him. He seemed a little less tense. His blue eyes flutter over to where my mother now stood, she was wiping down an old vase. His face wrinkled in confusion.

"Something wrong Turak?" I asked quietly lifting up his chin so he could meet my stare.

"No darling everything's alright." he said in a light tone of voice, as if he were trying to make things seem better than they actually were. He left in search of his father they needed to go back to there village to sort out things for tonight's festival seeing as we are now a united village the people of Kotra will be joining us. He kissed the top of my head before leaving. The feeling of his lips lingered. I sighed pressing my head as far as it would go into the bed.

I didn't want to get up. I knew I had to help with the set up for festival, but the ache in my head is reasonable excuse to not help out. I wrapped the linen around me trying to warm up my cold limbs. The fire place should be going, I thought. I pulled the blanket of the bed and headed to the fire place in our living space. I crawled up in a cocoon and warmed up by the flames. I watched as the wood my father must of collected burned into chunks of ash. I eventually had to move back because of the heat. I was just about to fall asleep when suddenly my father came bursting through the door.

"Nemeria! You must come quickly! " my father panted. He grabbed my hand and pulled me off the floor. I tried my best to keep up the pace my father was walking so fast. He skidded and stopped in front of a large brown lump in the distance. I ran up to where he had stopped my mother was crouched down next to it. I realised the it was actually Petaine.

Tears sprang to my eyes as I realise the faithful horse was dead. The halter was torn and a huge gash was open at the side off his head. Dried blood covered his nose and the side of his head. I bent down and rubbed his neck.

"Wh-who could of-of done something like this!" I cried. "He's dead!"

I sobbed into the shoulder of my father. Who could kill such a innocent animal? My father suggested a burial for Petaine this afternoon.

"Your mother and I , you and Turak. " he said. "Will attend."

"What about Yasitu? He loves Petaine he should come too and he is our stable boy." I said knowing Yasitu would want some closure too.

"No!" my father shouted. "He will not come and he's is no longer under the hire of me."

"Why? Did he do something wrong? " I asked confused, father had always said Yasitu was the best stable boy he had ever worked with.

"That is none of your concern Nemeria! " My father said, closing off any chance of more arguing. I was very confused.

--------

I pulled out a handkerchief to wipe my tear with as Turak and my father buried Petaine's body. Sobs escaped my mouth as I couldn't control my crying, it hurt so bad to lose my horse, he is just a horse but he was just any horse. He was mine and I brought him up. I had an unexplainable bond with him.

"Rest in peace Petaine, may the nature use your body and keep your spirit." My Father said, covering the last piece of sand on top of the grave. A few white rocks were place on top to mark the burial sight along side other horse that had been of significance and died.

My mother's arms wrapped around me to comfort me. She hugged me of awhile and then started to lead me back to the house to get me ready for Harvest Festival.
