Chapter 5 - The messenger
"Rival?"
"It's Ryvel" came his grim response.
"Yes, Rival. Why are you here?"
"How did you get in? Does Father know?"
"Ace, take a deep, deep breath."
And I did just that.
"Calmed down?" He raised an eyebrow.
"Yes now tell me"
"Well, it wasn't that hard," Ryvel brushed his shirt off from invisible dirt
"Knock the guards out," he made a hitting gesture.
"Rival" I narrowed my eyes
If his goal is to act cool, congratulations for failing.
"okay, okay! I flew, sneak into the kitchen, grabbed your key and here I am."
"Happy?" He frowned
"Peachy" giving him a 100 watt fake smile
"And it's Ryvel. R-Y-V-E-L. Ryvel!" He glared at me but the corners of his mouth twitched into a smile.
I knew that, he knew that I knew.
His name sounded like rival even he admitted it himself plus it's fun to tease him.
It's not like he's angry for real anyways.
I just grinned, a real smile this time, and stuck my tongue out.
"Now that's my girl!" he then proceeded on rubbing my head and messing up my hair even more.
"Quit it" I tried to shake of his hand. Key word : tried.
I gave up shortly after that.
"Any news?"
He stopped at that moment instantly. This can't be good news.
"How bad?"
He smiled, a weak smile.
That's never a good sign, you see, Ryvel never goes anywhere without his 1000 watt smile.
That's no joke, sometimes my eyes hurt just by looking at him smile.
"Spit it out" I moved out of the bed, took off my night gown, pick out a decent gown then putting that on.
I showered last night so why bother doing it again now. I knew Ryvel wouldn't dare to peek as he had covered his eyes with both hands.
While I fumbled with the ribbons on my dress, Ryvel finally decided to speak up.
Wise choice
"I was going up the stairs and coincidence, coincidence. Your father,"
He made a puking sound
I can't help but to smile, he despise him. Not the mild dislike but the I-want-to-burn-him-to-crisps-then-stomp-on-it kind.
Father burned his village to the ground. Ryvel and most of the tribe members managed to escape but just barely.
Most flee, except for one.
My lips formed a thin line, Ryvel didn't notice, most probably because he had both hands covering his eyes.
"You can open your eyes"
He sighed in relieve, "My arms are killing me"
"Don't try to change the subject, weakling."
"Yeah got me. So your father was walking down the stairs without a care in the world, I used magic to conceal myself. He didn't notice a thing!"
"He was carrying important-looking papers so I peeked in" He said uncomfortably
Not because he felt guilty, no, this is the bad news.
"Turns out It's marriage papers, yours"
