Chapter 6 - Infinite White

“Repeat” I stood rigidly, my feet glued to the ground

The whole room went silent, even more than it is.

Even though he whispered, it was equal to a shout. Aimed directly to my heart.

I can see Ryvel talking, his lips moving but I couldn't hear a thing. Then everything went colourless. Ryvel was nowhere to be found. I was in black and white, the ceiling, furnitures and everything with it vanished, all was left is me and a sea of infinite white.

I don't know what to do, I don't know where to go, I don't know where to look so I did what I know.

Run

But where ever I ran, I could not meet the end. Where ever I go, I could not meet the exit and where ever I look, I could not find.

And when I tripped and fell, I choose not to get up. Now I realised, I pretended not to hear, I knew it all along without Ryvel repeating himself and the exact words were, "It's your marriage papers."

I was hoping for those words to morph into something else. That was stupid, I knew that wasn't possible.

Life never goes my way.

"Ace,"

"Ace, snap out of it"

"Aisling!"

"Huh?" Ryvel was grasping my shoulders so hard that it hurts but I didn't mind, the pain will keep me awake.

"You went into shock" he said frowning

Memories of white, running and despair flashed through me. I hugged him, I needed it. I need to pull myself together. It was peaceful for  awhile,  Ryvel didn't ask about the hug in which I was grateful but then that moment ended.

“I know it sounds bad but the good side is-”

Suddenly I was angry, “I don’t care about the good side! There is no good side!” I cut his speech short.

I paced and got even more annoyed when he was calmly sitting down on the carpet.

“How can you be so, so composed!? Oh that’s right, you’re not me!”

Ryvel just stared in distaste “I’m not you but that’s a good thing because at least I could think clearly”

He’s right. Desperation and anger is definitely not the best pair and it affected me too much to think rationally. I took one deep breath, closed my eyes and counted

One, this information might not be true. Denial

Two, I will find a way out of this. Self-reassuring

Three, who would want to marry a wingless angel. Self-hate

Four, It's pointless. I'll never taste freedom. Hopelessness

Five, but I’ll fight for it. Determination

Letting the intake of breath out, I felt the negative energy as it pours out of my system completely. Now feeling calm, I opened my eyes, only to see Ryvel gone.

Now where did he disappear to? No matter, he’ll pop out sooner or later. Sort of like a missing object to humans. When you search for it, you won’t find it but when you don’t, it will show itself eventually. For us, it’s actually the same thing except if you have a warlock near by, they could chant a spell or two and the object would come floating, pretty handy huh?  But Ryvel is no object; no magic could bring him to me unless he wants to.

And I bet he doesn’t.

Unknown Pov

His body met the ground with an audible thud.

I stretched and cracked my knuckles. That’s all for tonight, I’m through.

I’ll report, have a nice bath and sleep, sounds good.

A pained groan resounded behind, I sighed without turning around

“You’re still alive?” I said teasingly, obviously he is.

“Should have stayed put but you didn’t,” I turned around and took a hold of his neck, backing him up to the wall. I stared at him, bored of the fear in his eyes. I smiled maniacally and watched as his fear grows.

“Pl-please, d-d-on’t kill m-me” He whimpers

“Now why would I do that?” I gave him a teasing smile

He opened his mouth to answer but I’m done playing with him

 “Too late”

I applied force to his neck sideways until a loud crack was heard, effectively killing him. His body slumped to the ground, his blank eyes wide open.

I reached out and closed his eyes, I warned him.

Picking up my jacket I walked away from the crime scene.

*****

“Pierce, you’re here” a man behind the counter approached me but I was in no mood for small talk,

“Here,” Shoving him the papers

 “Now leave me alone”

“Going home already?” I heard him call but I was no longer there.

I wouldn’t call it a home that word alone screams human,

House I can tolerate

#finally revealed the unknown pov all this time. Just some things to think about: what do you think Ryvel is up to? Who is Pierce? Who’s the groom? What will Ace do?#
