December 4, 1991
As the years passed, the memory wipes and torture continued.
The Soldier and the Widow never truly forgot their feelings for each other. After all, how could they?
Liesl awoke to shaking and opened her eyes to see the Soldier. In a rushed voice, he said, "Вставать. Нам нужно идти."
(Get up. We need to go.)
She rubbed her eyes. "Какие? Почему? Что случилось?"
(What? Why? What happened?)
"КГБ пал. Мне приказано доставить вас в безопасное место."
(The KGB has fallen. I've been ordered to get you someplace safe.)
"Джеймс, куда ты меня ведешь?"
(James, where are you taking me?)
The Soldier didn't answer. He gently undid her handcuffs and took her to a HYDRA agent. The Widow had a bag thrown over her head.
She struggled and a needle was injected into her arm. The Soldier's expression twitched slightly. Seeing her in pain made him want to hurt all those who dared lay a hand on her.
The HYDRA agent said to the Soldier, "Неси ее."
(Carry her.)
Wordlessly, the Soldier picked her up and they made their way to the plane.
A blond man smiled when he saw the unconscious Widow. "Well done, Soldier."
The Soldier gave no acknowledgement and simply laid the Widow down in a gentle manner.
The man looked at the agent and asked, "What was that?"
The agent said, "He cares for her. We must be careful. The two have a habit of starting to remember their past when they're around each other for extended periods of time."
"Then we'll just have to make sure we keep them separate excluding for missions. As soon as we get back, they're going into cryo."
The agent nodded. "Yes, sir."
When they arrived in Siberia, the Soldier and the Widow were wiped and put into cryo.
Twelve days later, they were awakened for a mission that seemed simple enough, yet they both succeeded and failed tremendously to complete it.
Eight months after their failed mission, two children were born. A boy and a girl. Twins.
But their childhood would be lacking in comfort and love.
No, these children would grow to be ruthless and cold.
An epitaph to a silent brewing war that dared not show its hideous face until it was too late.
Cold. Silent. Dark. Frigid.
That's what they were turned into. Not of their own choice, but by force.
The Soldier was forbidden to be in the shoddy delivery room with the Widow for fear that he'd remember himself and her once again.
Once the Widow had given birth, the children were taken away.
She never got to hold them.
As they were taken from the room, she said, "Их зовут Оуэн и Даниэль."
(Their names are Owen and Danielle.)
The blond man entered the room and smiled. "They will be great assets."
The Widow glared at him and spat, "My children are not assets. They're innocent!"
"HYDRA has no guilty or innocent. You know that. I need to put you back under."
Back under meant the icy chill.
And there she remained until midway through 2011.
All it took was one mistake. The Widow woke from her deep sleep and made her escape.
Donning a hat and jacket she'd stolen, she made her way to Munich, Germany.
She let out a sigh and whispered, "Ich bin zuhause."
(I am home. (German))
Her next task was to find her husband and children; wherever they were.
