*Camilo*

The next morning, I gathered my things for school and headed downstairs, excited that this would be our final week - I couldn't believe I would never have to write another essay again in my life. And let's face it, we all knew what my job would be after graduation - the same job I had since I was five, using my gift to help the village, not moving out, nothing changing. Even when Y/N and I got married, the assumption was that she would move in here with us. Half the stuff I learned in school seemed useless when I knew there was only one thing I would ever be doing - transforming into other people to help out the family.

I joined my cousins and siblings in the kitchen, grabbing a seat and beginning to eat, when I noticed Dolores had her listening face on, closing her eyes to focus and drown the rest of us out. Mariano brought her breakfast to her and sat down, smiling at her in her pose, gently tapping her to let her know the food was there. She snapped out of her listening and smiled at him, before putting a finger over his lips to shush him and then resuming listening.

"What is it?" I asked her, leaning over curiously, as if getting closer to her would somehow help me to listen. The others looked curiously at her, too.

"I can't tell you if you all don't be quiet!" she said, exacerbated, opening her eyes. "The grown-ups are outside talking about something important. Someone wants a meeting with Abuela."

We all slowly chewed as she listened, waiting for the update. I wondered what Y/N was doing right now, replaying yesterday over again in my head, smiling to myself.

"It's someone from one of the newer villages nearby - a group of them, like the leaders of the community," Dolores said. "They want to meet with Abuela to discuss a treaty."

"A treaty?" Mirabel asked. "What does that mean?"

"There are so many new villages growing up around the Encanto," Isabela said. "Maybe it's some kind of trade thing, where we give them something and they get something."

"What else could they possibly need?" I asked. "Our family and the town helped them with everything. There are still people coming in every week."

"Soon this will be a city," Luisa said.

"Doubtful," Isabela said. "The mountains are too difficult to build houses on and the Encanto is surrounded by them. There's only so far out we can build."

Dolores suddenly resumed eating, signaling to us that the adults were coming back inside. We all suddenly enthusiastically began shoveling food down as the door opened and closed and our parents, along with Abuela, came back inside. It must have been obvious because my mother rolled her eyes.

"Don't worry about trying to pretend Dolores didn't tell you everything," my father laughed, pulling up a chair along with the rest of them to join us.

"So what's going on?" I asked. "Who are these people?"

"They are a delegation from one of the further villages," Abuela said, adjusting her shawl as she sat down. "They want to discuss a treaty with us concerning protection of the community."

"Protection of the community?" Luisa asked. "What do they mean?"

"I'm not entirely sure," Abuela responded. "But my guess is that with the growing size of the village and all the neighbourhoods spreading out, they want some reassurances."

"Reassurances of what?" Isabela asked suspiciously.

"The world can be a dangerous place," Abuela said. "No one knows that more than me. The Encanto is supposed to be a protected place, but as we grow bigger and bigger and more people come for protection... I worry that our sheer size will attract the wrong attention."
