Chapter 17: Void

Liana's on her way to see this guy, named Lance, who can make her dead and see her parents. Liana walks in and he says, "You're late. Hope there was no problem with the cash?" Liana says, "No, the money wasn't the problem. I had to ditch my roommate. You don't know my roommate." Liana takes out her money and says, "Here, $2000, the rest of my savings." Ally says, "No worries, Liana, we're just about fixed for your fix." Lance holds up the syringe and Liana gets queasy, but she doesn't care. Lance looks at Ally and says, "This is not a drug trip." Ally says, "Relax, Lance, just a little syringe-speak humor. I wasn't implying that it's a hallucination." Lance says, "Damn straight. This little cocktail is my lock on a Nobel Prize." Ally says, "And a big fat deal with the pharmaceutical company." Liana says, "I wanna stay down longer this time. Two minutes." Lance says, "Forget it. It's too dangerous." Liana pleads, "Come on, Lance. It's only 20 seconds longer than last time and I almost found them." Ally says, "What could it hurt? I've been down almost as long. You know you can bring her back." Then Liana is on a medical bed and Lance is injecting the serum. Liana's "dead" and sees her parents. Liana has tears in her eyes and says, "Mom. Dad. Oh, my God. I never thought I'd see you again. I've missed you so much." Liana's mom says, "Oh, we've missed you too, honey." Liana says, "I've just been so confused, I didn't know where to turn." Liana's dad says, "We know how hard it's been." Liana cries and says, "I loved him so much. I thought I could handle it." Her mom smiles and says, "We're here for you, Liana." Liana says, "I wanted to ask you something. Who's my real father?" Her mom softly smiles and says, "His name is Sam Lane." Liana says, "Oh, my God." Liana then gets pulled back. Liana wakes up and Lance says, "You were gone too long. We almost didn't get you back." Liana pants and says, "Wait. It wasn't long enough. I have to go back." Later, Ally walks Liana back to her room and Liana sees Clark there. Ally says, "Catch you later, Liana." Liana softly says, "Yeah." Liana walks to her bag and starts putting her books in there. After Clark leaves, Chloe says, "I'm sorry." Liana says, "Don't be. You guys are friends. It was bound to happen sometime, right?" Chloe says, "Um, I didn't think you'd be back. So, should I even bother asking what you were up to last night?" Liana smiles and says, "Just hanging out, Chloe, it was no big deal." Chloe says, "Maybe not, but it doesn't really look like all-nighters agree with you. You, okay?" Liana softly says, "I'm okay." Chloe says, "Because you don't look okay. Liana, I know that Clark's break-ups been really difficult, but--" Liana cuts Chloe off and says, "Chloe, it's not like someone died. Alright? People break up every day. It's not a big deal. I'll get over it." Liana then walks away. Later, Liana goes to Lance. Liana says, "Lance." Lance looks at Liana and says, "What are you doing here?" Liana says, "I have to do it again soon." Lance whispers and says, "You keep your voice down. You want someone to hear you? You could get us expelled. Get out of here." Liana grabs Lance and says, "No, wait. I have to go back there again. I have to see my parents." Lance says, "Alright, but it's gonna cost you. Five grand this time." Liana smiles and says, "No problem." As Lance leaves, Liana wonders where she's gonna get $5000 from. Later, Liana sneaks into Lex's mansion to steal something worth $5000. Liana hears Lex say, "Don't move." As Liana goes to run, Lex stops her and points the gun at her face. Lex drops the gun and says, "Liana?" Lex turns on the lights and Liana sits down on his couch, and he says, "My God, Liana, I had, I had no idea it was you. I could have killed you. If you needed money all you had to do was ask." Liana shakily says, "I know. Lex, I'm really sorry. I didn't wanna have to lie to you." Lex says, "Just tell me what's wrong." Liana says, "There's nothing wrong with me." Lex says, "You didn't wanna lie to me, but you broke into my house and tried to steal from me. You're acting like a junkie trying to find her next fix." Liana says, "There's this guy at school. He's created these chemicals." Lex says, "So it is drugs." Liana shakes her head with a smile and softly says, "No. It's not what you think. They kill you, and then they bring you back. Lex, I died. I died and I came back. I'm telling the truth. I went to the other side... and I saw my parents. It was beautiful." Lex gets up and sits next Liana and places a hand on her shoulder and softly says, "No one understands the loss of a parent more than I do. And for you... growing up without a mother or father... I can even understand taking whatever chance you did to see them again. But... you will have to look at yourself. Look at what you've become. This isn't what your parents would have wanted for you." Liana softly cries and says, "Lex, I'm sorry. I just... I wanted to see them so badly." Lex says, "You're freezing." Liana says, "Oh, no, I'm okay." Lex says, "No, I'm gonna get you a blanket." As Lex leaves, Liana grabs Lex's car keys and goes to see Lance. Liana walks over to Lance and says, "What are you doing?" Lance says, "Getting rid of the evidence." Liana says, "Evidence?" Lance says, "Ally, she's dead." Liana says, "What? What happened to her?" Lance says, "I warned her there's only so many times you could die before you stay that way." Liana says, "Did your serum kill her?" Lance looks at Liana and says, "My serum didn't do anything. She did it to herself." Liana looks down at the syringe and says, "Well, I'm willing to take my chances. I need you to send me back." Liana goes to sit on the medical bed and Lance looks at her and says, "Are you out of your mind? The police could be here any minute. I have to get out of here." Liana gives Lance the Lex's keys and says, "Then we better hurry." Lance says, "What the hell is this?" Liana says, "Those are keys to a very expensive Porsche which is parked outside. Figured they'd cover the cost for one more trip to the other side." Lance says, "You stole a Porsche?" Liana says, "No. I borrowed it from a friend." Lex walks in and says, "And he wants it back." Liana's surprised to see Lex and says, "Lex." Lex says, "Cool thing about expensive cars, they all come with GPS tracking." Liana says, "Lex, I can explain." Lex nods and Lance says, "Lex? Lex Luthor?" Liana nods and Lance puts down the keys and says, "Dumb bitch. I never should have let you in on this." Liana says, "No, Lance, please wait." Lance says, "I'm out of here." Lex says, "You're not going anywhere till the authorities get..." Lance punches Lex and Lance drops his bag. A vile rolls to Liana and she picks it up and leaves. Liana walks into the anatomy lab and looks for a syringe. Liana finds one, but the door is locked. Liana freezes the glass door and punches through to take the syringe. As Liana is about to put the syringe in the vile, she's grabbed by Lance and he says, "Ah, figured I'd fine a junkie where the needles are." Lance throws Liana on the ground and says, "Let me help." Liana watches Lance put the syringe in the vile and grabs her and says, "Tell Ally I said hi." Liana fells Lance's hold off her and see Clark. Clark says, "Liana, are you okay?" Liana softly cries and says, "Clark, please help me. I need them. I need them." Clark says, "Liana. Please." Liana sees Lance behind him and says, "Clark!" Liana watches Lance inject Clark. Liana says, "Clark!" As Liana goes to Clark, Lance grabs her and slaps her in the face and says, "Do you know how much trouble you caused me? You freshman." Liana looks at Clark and says, "We need to help him." Lance says, "Or choice B." Lance grabs a drill and turns it on and continues to say, "I take care of both of you." Liana freezes the machine in his hands and kicks him in the stomach. Lance then falls into a knife, and it impales him to death. Liana goes to kneel next to Clark and says, "Clark. Clark." Clark then wakes up and Liana smiles and says, "Clark."

The next day, Liana goes to apologize to Lex. Liana walks in on Lex playing the piano and she says, "It's beautiful." Lex says, "It's my favorite." Liana softly says, "Lex." Lex says, "Yeah. Is this gonna be another apology?" Liana says, "Well, they don't make a card for 'Sorry I got you killed.'" Lex says, "You weren't yourself. I know what that's like. Trust me. I'm glad you're alright." Liana says, "That I didn't end up like Ally." Lex says, "I have to admit. Crossing over was a very enlightening experience." Liana says, "What did you see?" Lex says, "My mother." Liana softly smiles and says, "What'd she say?" Lex says, "She said that... she's very proud of the man I'm becoming." Liana smiles and says, "She should be." Later, Liana's in her dorm looking at photos of her parents. There's a knock on her door and she turns around to see Clark. Liana softly says, "Clark, hi." Clark walks in and says, "How you are doing?" Liana softly smiles and says, "Well, to be honest, I've felt a lot better. I'm sorry. I didn't wanna hurt anyone." Clark says, "Except yourself." Liana says, "No, that's... I didn't want that, either." Clark says, "Well, then, why were you doing it?" Liana says, "It wasn't because of us, Clark. It was... Well, it was a lot of things. I just wanted to feel their arms again. Feel their warmth." Clark softly smiles and says, "Did you?" Liana says, "Almost. But it'll have to do. Because I won't let myself be that dependent again. No matter what I'm searching for." Clark says, "I hope so." Liana nods and as Clark leaves, he says, "Liana? All I want is for you to be happy." Liana softly says, "I will be."
