"Another case, another time Lieutenant being a cryptic..." Lacuna entered her apartment, tossing the files to the ground. She took off her trench coat, hanging it; took off her fedora, keeping it in her hand. She kneeled next to the files, opening the first one; letting go of her hat to rest on the ground. "It's always my job to 'complete the puzzle to perfection'."

The pages and the notes and the pictures got laid on the ground, all open to the detective's eyes. She loosened her tie and folded her sleeves, taking out a red pen from her pocket.

'I already have a theory, multiple outcomes...'

A piece of writing got crossed over, the red ink bleeding onto the paper.

'That's the obvious one, there should be more to it.'

She looked over to another piece of paper.

'First I should look at the reason for the newspaper shutting down, that will take me to the murder.'

Her eyes went over her own notes, comparing them to the official files. She usually prefered to trust the information she gathered herself as the government, or the official forces in general, were also generally suspects.

'They do line up. They are probably not related...'

"Probably..." she said, "That's the key word." She rubbed her face, throwing her hair back. "Anything could make sense if you want it to. All it takes is some logic, some convincing..."

The doorbell rang and she got up, fixing her tie. She opened a door, a postman standing in the hallway of the building.

"A letter to Detective Lacuna, from Lieutenant Rachel Green." The postman handed the detective an envelope.

"Thanks." Lacuna simply answered, closing the door after the postman left. "Already?" she said as looked around the envelope. It was pretty normal, with both of their names on the envelope that smelled like the tea Rachel always drank. "Let's see what she's got to say."

'She's same as always; arranging a meeting, listening to me and then giving me info after we part...'

She tore the envelope open, taking out the actual message. "I've never liked the smell of tea..." she complained about the thing she always complained about whenever she got a letter from Rachel.

'A warrant to search the crime scene... A few remarks on my theories... A request to meet again some time again... Pretty regular stuff. It would be good to tidy up before leaving though.'

She jumped over the papers on the ground, reaching to her desk. She opened a drawer full of other letters, putting the one in her hands on top of them.

'It's safe to assume there is nothing new to me at the crime scene but it's better than nothing.'

She picked up all of the papers on the ground, putting them into the files and leaving them on her desk. "Guess they will have to wait a bit, I have some other work right now." She put her fedora back on, fixing her tie and suspenders, then taking and putting on her trench coat as well. Her hand moved over her chest pocket, checking her ID.

"Already off to the crime scene? Give yourself a moment of rest Detective." Rachel spoke as soon as Lacuna got out of the building with a knowing smile on her face.

Lacuna halted for a second, a smile appearing on her face. "Well, Lieutenant... I just can't stop thinking for a moment, you know, especially when there's a case on my desk."

"Right, right... That's good, really good. Mind if I tag along?"

"I wouldn't. But I have one question."

"Go ahead."

"Why did you send a letter when you are literally here. I know you probably weren't when the postman arrived, you had to be somewhere else to post it here, but then why come here now?"

The smile on Rachel's face softened. "Let's just say not everything I do has to make sense." She fixed her scarf, walking away. "Now, shall we get going?"

Lacuna followed behind. "And that's the main thing I don't understand about you."
