Penny couldn't hold her excitement. The bus stop was nearly deserted. Carrying two big paper bags she walked to a family restaurant down the street. It wasn't 5 stars worth but it was cozy and the food was above average. The locals frequently come and favor this place.
On the second floor of the restaurant was a table specially prepared for Talon and Penny. If they had dates on rooftops then it would have been easier to spot them if MAD or HQ was using their satellite vision or in general just their eyes. After all, agents are everywhere.
They normally have dates at the restaurant because it's nice and low populated. A perfect cover for Penny whenever she goes to meet Talon.
Going to the restroom Penny slipped on a casual green dress. Nothing too fancy. Just a jade dress that stops above the knees with a ribbon around the waist.
Talon was already there wearing a tuxedo. His eyes widened when he saw Penny.
"You look gorgeous." He said as he pulled out a chair for her.
Penny giggled. "Thank you and you look quite handsome yourself."
"Thank you, I tried but I couldn't think of how I could make myself more handsome than I already am. It's not easy being enchanted by my looks."
"Oh please lover boy. I fell in love with that wonderful personality of yours, not your looks."
"You say that now but I'll get you to admit it sooner or later."
"You'll try you mean." Penny held up the menu. "I'm in the mood for some spaghetti alla carbonara, you?
"Same." He said as they ordered. "So going to tell me what it means?"
"What?" Penny asked with a shy smile.
"Oh, you know. You love to tell me all these bookworm facts. So care to explain the history of spaghetti?"
"There's nothing wrong with knowing things!" Penny defended. "The origins of this classic Roman specialty remain shrouded in mystery. Because its name derives from carbonaro (charcoal burner), some say it was a popular meal among the Italian charcoal workers, while others believe it has something to do with the Carbonari (charcoalmen), a secret Italian society, but in reality, none of these theories can be confirmed."
"Though I don't care about the history lesson, your bookworm side is really cute," Talon admitted.
"Thanks," Penny said sarcastically. But she knew that Talon didn't have the same interest as her and neither did she but they had been together for so long. Much longer than they ever expected. And Penny isn't sure about losing that. "You're lucky that you're cute."
"So how's your uncle?" Penny asked after the food came, hoping to strike up a conversation.
"How's yours? And the dog of yours."
"They're both the same."
"Do they even know you're here?"
"N-No. But they know I'm going to be at Kayla's and that's true." She said quietly. "Hey! You're changing the subject! C'mon, answer the question." Penny nudged.
Talon poked at his food. "He still thinks of me as nothing more than an errand boy. Making me do all these silly tasks for him and MAD cat."
"I'm sure you'll impress him one day."
"It's just unfair! I'm his number two! You aren't even a real agent and I'm put on the same level as you!"
"W-What?" Penny could barely get the words out of her mouth. But once she did she felt a little anger. "Apologize."
"I'm sorry Pen but it's true."
"Well, when I am a real agent I wonder who'll have to deal with you."
"What do you mean?"
"Since I'm currently on the same level with it means that once I become a real agent then someone else will have to deal with you. I'll move up to bigger missions."
"If you become an agent."
"Oh believe me I will. Just meet me on my level. Or is that not possible for the amazing Talon?" Penny challenged.
Talon laughed. "Oh believe me I will get there. You'll see."
"Looking forward to it but it will be I who will see you."
"Looking forward to it," Talon said before he kissed Penny on the lips.
Looking forward to it," Penny repeated with a red blush across her face.
Talon's eyes quickly darted to the clock on the far side of the room. "The time! Sorry Pen but I have to go. Uncle Claw needs me to do some shopping for MAD cat. If I'm late he'll have my head for a week."
"Really?" Penny said, disappointed. "I guess you better hurry if you want to move up on the villain ladder."
"Thanks for understanding."
After a quick hug, Talon flew out the restaurant window. Not wanting the half-eaten plates to go to waste, Penny ate them both. She sighed and tried to remember a time where they were able to have a full date. Then it occurred to her that it has never happened. Either she was called away or him.
Penny let out an all too familiar sigh.
She noticed she got a missed call from Kayla. So she cleared her voice and tried to sound happy. "Hi, Kayla."
"Girl where are you? It doesn't take that long to get snacks."
Sudden guilt welled up inside of Penny. "Sorry. Traffic is horrible." She lied through her teeth.
"Are you, at least, almost here?"
"Yep, just give me a few minutes." Penny dashed out of her dress and out of the front door. She quickly made it to Kayla's door before long.
As Penny rang the doorbell she couldn't help but wonder if Kayla would see through her deception.
"There you are!" Kayla squealed. "Thanks for buying snacks and guess what? I just got Dawn 4."
"No way! This is just the night I need. Come on, let us make popcorn!"
