Part 7: And Then She Knew

Marinette looked around.

Her apartment brought everything back.

Scarlett's evil glint in her eyes. 

The crackle rod aimed at North.

Conan's bloody body up against the wall and then...

The darkness engulfing her.

She remembered that night when Scarlett nearly killed her and everyone.

'I'm sorry.' She heard Scarlett's voice say that and it broke her heart.

She did not stop herself. She cried and hugged Scarlett tightly, afraid that she was going to lose her any second.

Scarlett hugged her back and let Marinette cry out the pain she had been harboring for months on end.

'It's me, Scarlett.' Scarlett said, repeating the words on the letter.

'It...it would've been better...if you brought a handkerchief...' Marinette sobbed.

Scarlett then kissed her on the lips and Marinette tried hard to resist it, but in the end, she melted into it.

As they pulled off, Scarlett whispered, 'I'm sorry.'

'It's...ok.' Marinette said, wiping her tears.

'Mari, I have to ask you this question.' Scarlett said. Marinette nodded.

'Who was Cole?' She asked.

'I-I...'

'Don't force yourself.'

'No, I have to tell you. He...he was my youngest brother, but my mother died when he was born. And so, I took care of him in my free time. I was at college when he...'

Marinette choked a little and then said, 'He was in an accident. Dad survived, he didn't. It was my fault I wasn't there. The truck...it skidded on a sheet of ice and the car...rolled over and...and...'

Scarlett looked at the woman and then said, 'It wasn't your fault. It was no one's fault.'

Scarlett hugged her as Marinette tried hard not to start crying. 

'Marinette.'

'Hm?'

'What...are we? What are we exactly?' Scarlett asked.

Marinette looked up at her and then showed her the ring that had adorned her finger behind closed doors. 

'Do you remember the promise you made to me, Scar?' Marinette asked.

'Yes. And I will be with you, always. I love you, Mari. I loved you since the day I laid my eyes on you.' Scarlett said.

Marinette looked at her and kissed her.

And they knew that this was the real start of their future.
