Eyes

' 'Eyes are the windows to a person's soul', if you know how to detect the subtleties of their ever changing nature. Eyes are not mere organs to look at the world to perceive it the way it is, even though that appears to be its major function. Leaving aside their practical use, eyes speak more than tongues ever do, if only one looks into them, rather than just out of them.

A person's words might be lies but studying their behaviour clues one to their 'tells'. However a disciplined individual, like a good poker player, is in full control and his physical movements does not reflect his mental state. The trick then, is to look in their eyes, and you will know whether they are bluffing or not. Eyes are highly expressive, conveying all manners of emotions, which have been eloquently exalted in literature. They 'sparkle' with mischief, 'flash' with anger, 'soften' with love, 'harden' with cruelty, 'glisten' in sadness and sometimes in joy too, 'twinkle' with secrets, and 'spark' with irritation. The dilation of the pupils might suggest eagerness, while the constriction of the same suggests wariness, among other things.

The colours of the iris', though similar in similar geographical regions, are quite unique in the case of every individual. The colours blue, green and grey are thought to be fascinating but even the dullest of brown eyes, if ringed with a lighter shade, which wanes and waxes with the person's moods, can be quite enchanting too.

The eyes of a person are something at which you pay attention only if you are comfortable in their company. One may not meet the other's gaze out of respect and reveren or maybe due to feelings of guilt and shame. Only the people with whom you converse freely are the ones whose eyes you look into; along with the ones whom you admire, in case of having close-ups of celebrities!

It is a beautiful thing to see innocence in a child's eyes, and equally devastating to look in the empty ones of a child livingin harrowing conditions. Pride shining in them makes one feel as if all their hard work had paid off, but disapproval and disappointment in the same make one wish for the earth to open up and swallow them. To see eyes become small due to laughter makes one happy, but the same eyes red-rimmed and brimming with tears of pain and anguish stirs something within us to drive us to help them.

Look closely at what the eyes try to hide rather than what the words and actions try to show, for therein will you find the basis of human nature but sometimes we come across such beautiful selfless souls which give their all without asking for anything in return. When one has the fortune to come across such an individual try to hear what their eyes say, they will tell you the story of someone who needs but does not ask, and instead gives to those who do not need, yet ask. Look around and see, and you will discover the true nature of people because, after all, eyes are the windows of the soul .
