The Titan

It's real, oh god it's real. How the hell did I get here? One minute I was laying in my bed after work in the real world, and now I see the forest beneath me in what I thought was a dream threaten to meet my reach as I try so hard to grab onto my own remaining reality. How have I not woken up yet? The trees, they're almost at my fingertips...

I crash through the bush at the top of one of the taller forest trees, the leaves and branches scratching at my skin and making shreds in my clothes. I scream, not knowing how the hell I got here or where I even was. I could be anywhere... The animated forest around me staring at me as an outsider who doesn't belong.

I catch myself on a thicker branch not even half way down the tree and hoist myself up. I lean against the thick trunk and look around me, still able to see some of the skyline. Where ever I was, I stuck the landing. Above the quiet of the forest once the echo of my crash faded away, my gasping and panting for air is all I can hear. Where am I?

I straighten out my shirt, surveying the damage of the fall. I could feel the warm blood escaping a gash across my cheek, and some scrapes against my hands and ribcage, but nothing is broken. My attention is aware of a sudden shake of the tree coming from the ground up. I clutch around to find my balance, standing to stabilize myself.

"Now what?" I question to myself, peering past the thick branch I'm perched on to see what the commotion was on the forest floor beneath me.

My eyes immediately started to run glossy with tears of fear, the ripped flesh of my cheeks going cold and pale. My heart sunk and my stomach turned as I saw what was staring up at me with a wicked smile and an upstretched grasp of it's hand.

"No... no please let this be a dream. No... anywhere but here..." I cry out to myself in fear as I stare deep into the titan's hallow eyes. It's hand can't quite reach me, but if I were any lower I'd be chewed in half by now.

It kicks the base of the tree again, realizing that I'll lose my balance if it does so. I hang on tighter to the tree, but the bark starts to tear away the tighter I dig my fingers into it to stay above the beast. I yelp in fear as one of my feet slides off my post. I can't get a good enough grip anymore, and I go tumbling out of the tree.

I scream in fear, wishing more than anything that I had met the hard ground and splattered all over the tree trunks surrounding me than end up in the hands of a titan. This has to be a dream, right? Then why do I feel everything, the bruising that's now taking place on my ribs as the titan squeezes me, the hot fear flushing my cheeks as I watch it bring me up to it's gaping mouth, the sheer panic and horror of being so close to death... yet I don't wake up. I can't wake up. Because this isn't a dream, there is not jolt waiting to rescue me back to my own world...

As my last passing moments flash before me and into the titan's mouth, I'm cut loose by a yell of determination from behind me. I'm now falling again, this time towards the ground as I'm released from the titan's disconnected hand. Blood speckles my body, and another scream from behind the titan causes it to crash towards the ground, right on top of me.

Before I become a pancake, I hear the whizzing sound of the wire cords from the 3DM gear that I'm so familiar with. I get pinned against the base of a tree trunk. I get the wind knocked out of me, my bloody hair whipping out in front of me. I shut my eyes from the pain and gasp desperately for air. When I open my eyes, my gaze is met with a dark, faded blue one, covered almost completely with black hair falling in front of his face. We are at eye level, with one arm still wrapped completely around my waist and the other clutching a blade and pressing into the tree behind me.

"What the hell do you think you're doing outside the wall?" His low voice demands of me, his eyes hard and annoyed.

"Captain, that looks like the only titan in the area. Should we go back?" A sweet but strong voice calls out to the man in front of me.

"I-" I try to at least say my name, but I clutch my ribs in pain from trying to breathe even slightly deep. Captain Ackerman's eyes go from hard and annoyed to slightly concerned and annoyed as he watches me bellow over in pain. I grit my teeth, trying to hold it together in front of Captain fucking Levi.

"Jeager, do we have an extra horse?" He calls out, not taking his eyes off me. He releases his hold on me and leaves me leaning against the tree as he returns to his group.

"She's hurt..." The strong woman's voice chimes. I feel cold hands on my cheek where I was cut and open my eyes. My vision's blurred, but I'm able to make out big grey eyes, short black hair and a red scarf. Mikasa. She heaves me over her shoulder and walks effortlessly to the halted stampede of horses they had brought with them. Her and a few others help my up onto a horse as I try to stabilize myself.

"Can you ride?" The captain asks me in a monotone voice.

"I think so..." I try to say, my pain endless. I cough slightly, catching a few streams of blood in the palm of my hand.

"Captain, we have to get her to a doctor. Let me bind her and she will make it to the wall, at least." Says another woman almost excitedly. "I'm Hange Zoe. I know it hurts, but bare with me. Almost getting eaten by a Titan is no game. What's your name, by the way?"

"Don't make her talk, Hange. She can't even breathe." Levi says with a sigh. Holy shit, why is this dream not ending? How can I feel this much pain?

"(F/N) (L/N). Nice to meet you, Hange." I manage to say after she binds me up a little.

"I'm Armin!" I sweet blonde kid bellows out from behind the crowd. Strange, his face doesn't match the last episode I watched of this show on my way home. Where in time am I?

"Captain Levi, she'll need some support if she's going to ride back on horseback, but the carriage got destroyed by a titan on the mission today."

Captain Levi surveys me, looking me up and down as he strides over to the side of my horse. He side eyes Hange, then looks back up at me. "Is that true?"

"I.. can hold my own... I'll be alright." I try to say, coughing again.

"Eren's titan form could carry her." Mikasa suggests.

"Yeah, but it would be too obvious and attention grabbing if the attack titan were just roaming about. It's too dangerous." Armin chimes in.

Levi sighs, then hoists himself gracefully up onto the back of my horse, his arm snaking itself around my waist. He gathers the reins with his other hand and holds me against him, and I lean into him. Oh, ok yeah I do need a back support. thank you.

"Move out." He says plainly, his voice rumbling in his chest. I feel it against my back as his words slip right past my ear. Maybe I don't want to wake up just yet.
