Chan sighed in exasperation as he walked down the school corridors, the feeling of a presence behind him very evident.
He sighed again.
"You guys don't have to keep an eye on me 24/7" he rolled his eyes, not even turning around as he continued to walk, almost attempting to increase his speed.
"We just want to make sure you're safe" he heard a pouty Jisung and finally stopped to turn around, not without yet another indignant sigh.
"Yeah, but you're literally following me to my class, you can walk with me you know. Besides, I've made it this far" Chan crossed his arms, waiting for his friends to catch up.
Ever since Chan and his neighbours told his friends about what was really going on, and Chan's possibility of becoming acquainted with death, they've been rather...protective.
Overprotective.
Changbin had sat in Chan's maths class for the entire first period before the teacher noticed and sent him away.
Changbin didn't even take maths.
It got even worse when Chan informed them that he'd visited the doctor again and been officially diagnosed with anxiety, which was less than ideal.
They prescribed him more benzodiazepines, a more feasible amount, and then gave him more stuff for the insomnia that hadn't ceased to exist, which was also less than ideal.
"Chan, we simply don't want you to die" Minho bluntly stated as they stood in front of him, arms all mirroring Chan's.
"I know, and I appreciate it, but I already have to deal with the feeling that a bunch of ghosts are constantly staring at me. I don't need the same feeling for living people as well" Chan explained. He saw Seungmin wince at the mention of the ghosts, the concept quite understandably hard to grasp.
"Plus, don't you think you're going a bit overboard. I mean, I don't even want to mention Jeongin looking through my kitchen window at 7 pm on a Saturday night" a slight glare was sent the boy's way and his face went red before all their faces softened.
"Yeah, I guess you're right. Hey, we'll ease it down a notch if we're still allowed to keep an eye on you yeah?" Felix asked.
"You do that anyway, even before you knew, plus I don't really think I can stop you, so I guess deal" he smiled at them before heading into his class, the rest (hopefully) returning to their own classes.
Chan really wasn't in the mindset to worry about the English essay that was apparently due in at the end of the day, so he knew he'd need to speak to his teacher before class about getting an extension. Then there's all the maths homework that he needs to catch up on, and he's the furthest behind out of his class on his music project, however, his music teacher became a lot more lenient on the boy after he literally had an anxiety attack in his classroom.
Chan just had so much to do, and he was panicking just thinking about it all. Not only all of that, but he also needs to deduce a way to avoid death every couple of weeks (depending on how the Faceless Man was feeling, which wasn't very considerate of him) because Chan couldn't figure out the revenant's pattern, he literally just appears at random, unexpected times, which was not very convenient.
The cherry on top is that his family are also worried about him, especially his mother whom he needs to reassure quite literally every single night that he's okay.
Chan was stressed just thinking about it all.
He was just excited for the end of the day though, the boys and him had planned to sit in Hyunjin and Jisung's art class for a couple of hours after school so they could hang out somewhere that wasn't any of their houses (and because Hyunjin and Jisung had artwork to finish and didn't want to be alone in the school when it became dark).
It was going to be a time for Chan to finally relax even for just a couple of hours. Minho had brought cake and the rest brought some other stuff so that they could hang about for a while.
The boy aimlessly flicked his pen as he peered outside, expecting to see the normal teacher ghost as per usual.
It was not the normal teacher ghost.
Chan sat up in fear.
Why was the Faceless Man back so quickly? It had only been a couple of days?
Chan looked between his teacher, the class, and outside, more specifically the man with no face, and already felt anxiety creeping up his spine.
After looking between everything for what seemed like ages, Chan looked back outside and he was gone. Chan blinked. He was definitely gone. He could breathe again.
The bell rang and Chan rushed up to his friends' table so that he could dump his stuff and head over to his English teacher to inform her that he hadn't in fact, done the work.
"Chan please don't tell me you're here to say you didn't do your homework...again" Chan smiled awkwardly, and that gave her her answer.
"Chan you used to be so good for handing stuff in, it's now almost every piece of homework is late, what's going on with you?"
"I'm sorry," he spoke quietly, "I'm just dealing with some...stuff right now, and I'm struggling with the school workload. I promise that I'll get it in for when you want it" she sighed, but nonetheless marked his name out and changed the date in his form.
"You have exactly a week, that's the only extension I'm giving you. If it isn't in by then, then you get an immediate fail" she raised her eyebrows and handed him the slip of paper.
"Thank you, I'll get it done, I promise"
"You better," she spoke and Chan started walking away.
"And Chan?" He turned around in question, her face notably softer, "make sure you're okay, remember we have counsellors here if you ever need anyone to talk to" Chan nodded nervously, knowing for a fact that he wouldn't go to them, but appreciated the thought nonetheless.
He nodded before heading back to his table, setting a reminder on his phone to do the essay.
