Estelle woke up earlier than Marlene and Lily the next day, the sun was just rising. She wrapped herself in her blanket, and shuffled over to the window. The whole neighbourhood was cast in a pink and orange light, the snow glowed like fire, and everything was still.

Even though everyone was waking up, or would be awake soon, it felt as if the world had stopped. Just for a moment, just for this moment. To watch as the sun filled the air with light, and the pink to slowly fade away. Estelle stood there awhile, silently watching as she listened to the birds chirp.

After quite some time, and after the sun had fully risen, Estelles peace was broken by a terribly loud noise. It was like a mini bell tower was ringing insistently somewhere in the room. Lily shuffled in her bed, and reached for her little clock, pressing a button on top. The noise stopped, and Lily pulled the covers back over her head groaning.

"What the bloody hell was that?" Estelle asked, staring wide eyed at the lump under Lilys blanket.

She peaked her head out, looking over at Estelle bleary eyed. "The alarm clock."

"It scared me half to death." Estelle said with a shaky laugh.

"It's basically just a mini clock tower, it goes off at a time you set it to. Quite handy!" Lily said, yawning and sitting up in her bed. "Oi, Mar! Get your arse up." She called over to Marlene, who was fast asleep on her cot.

"That girl will sleep through a damn earthquake." Estelle said, rolling her eyes. She picked up the pillow off her cot and tossed it at Marlene, hitting her directly in the head.

"What the hell! Who threw that!" Marlene said, sitting straight up in her cot and looking around frantically. Her eyes locked onto Estelle, who was staring at her like a deer in headlights. "You little bitch." She said, throwing the blanket off of herself and charging at Estelle with the pillow.

Estelle let out a little squeal and tried to dodge her, but Marlene managed to whack her in the stomach with the pillow, and then once over her head, and then again to her side.

"Hey! Stop it you nutter!" Estelle managed to get out between blows.

"I was peacefully" She hit her again, "Asleep" and again, "Until you ruined it!"

"Oh shut up." Lily said with a laugh, "Go get dressed, we have a big day."

"Fine. Only because I am starving, not because you told me to." Marlene said, sticking her tongue out at Lily and flipping off Estelle, who rolled her eyes and returned the gesture.

After they had all showered and dressed, which took so long, it made a lot more sense to Estelle why Lily had set the alarm clock so early. They made their way down to the kitchen. Lilys Mother had already started to cook breakfast and Lily quickly stepped in to help.

"Is there anything we can do, Mrs. Evans?" Estelle asked politely.

"Oh yes Dear, if you wouldn't mind getting the toast going and please, call me Jane" She said, gesturing to a loaf of bread and a very strange looking device.

"Erm.. Sure.. I can do that." Estelle said, walking over to the counter.

Jane had Marlene start chopping tomatoes, while Lily stirred something on the oven.

The strange device had a chord that plugged into the wall, and from everything Estelle had learned, she knew that meant it was electric. She looked at it a moment, completely dumbfounded with what to do with it. On the top there was two slots, that looked about the size of a piece of toast.. So the bread must go in there... right?

She put a piece of toast in each slot, and looked at all of the buttons.

"Is everything alright there, Stella?" Lily asked with a snort.
