Keefe POV
Foster was heading to her room to change, so I dropped my stuff down on the counter as I leaned against it, checking a recent text I got.
It was from mom. That's weird... she never texts me unless she needs something from me.
I cautiously opened the text, still rather confused as to why she texted me.
Last Month:
Mom: On your way back from school, grab some food for yourself. Your father and I are going out for dinner.Keefe: Ok.
Today:
Mom: Your father is hospitalized. Car crash while he was drunk. That moron.
I didn't know how to feel. I froze in my spot, dropping the phone. Despite how idiotic and annoying he was, somewhere in my heart, I didn't despise him. Key word: somewhere.
So, I sat there, trying to figure out how I felt. While I annoyed at my dad for driving drunk, obviously, but I was partially heartbroken. He'll be fine. I think.
Then I heard Foster saying my name and I quickly snapped out of my trance. "Hm?"
"What happened?"
My emotional turmoil kept spinning while I tried to answer the question.
"I..."
Foster prompted me on. "Keefe?"
"My dad's in the hospital." I breathed out, my eyesight fixtated on one thing.
"Oh Keefe." Foster said, placing her hand over mine. The tingles that when up my spine when she did that were undeniable. Ugh, I was simping hard, wasn't I?
"Let's go." She suddenly said, pulling me by the arm.
I snapped out of my trance. "Where?"
"To the hospital." She said, as if it was obvious.
"But I don't want to." I stubornly said, not moving a bit as she prompted me.
"Keefe. I don't know what's going on between you and your father, but whatever is happening, your father still cares about you. And you do too. So get your butt up. We're going."
I relecutantly agreed, even though every muscle in my body told me not, the only one that agreed was my dumb heart, which would never say no to Foster. What a simp.
The car ride there was quiet as Foster drived to the hospital. When we hopped out, I got a feeling she was mad at me because she didn't say anything and she was silent. I was kinda scared, if I'm being honest. I didn't want her to be mad at me. I hated it when that happened.
But when we got out of the car, depite her silence, she took my hand in hers as we walked through the double doors of the hospital.
I visibly relaxed in spite of myself. Thank the lord she's not mad at me. She's the only person I can turn to these days. Of course, I'm not going to tell her that. Imagine how awkward it would be.
I tightened my hold on her hand and we walked to recpetionist at the front desk on the hospital.
The lady was very short and had ginger ringlets. She wore cresent glasses that droped down to her nose. "Name?" She spoke as if she was speaking through her nose.
"Uh... Sencen?" I said.
At that, the lady's face went from stiff to softened and full of emotion.
I was very confused, and looked at Foster from the corner of my in uncertainty, where she mimicked me with a confused expression.
