The Eyes That Watched

The sensation that was the soft, morning light dancing across your face stirred you from your slumber. That and the subtle chatter of voices - both of which you recognised. You scrunched up your features and started to stretch your aching bones, hearing your back crack loudly.

The voices stopped.

You opened your eyes carefully, almost like you were afraid. When you did, they landed on two familiar faces standing by the door. One more familiar than the other, however.

"Awake?" Law asked, arms crossed as he leaned up on your dresser.

You nodded hesitantly, your head throbbing as you did so. Something of a hiss escaped your lips and your hand clamped over the back of your skull in hopes of easing the pain. Though once it had subsided just enough for you to focus yet again, your gaze landed on the second man. Someone you were surprised to see, actually. Probably more because he was close to being a stranger and was just standing in your room quite casually.

"Hey, sorry." Kaku said, scratching at his cheek awkwardly as he stood close to your door. Maybe Law made him come back this morning to explain some symptoms in his usual doctoring way. "Are you alright?"

"I think so." You replied, brows furrowing. Your expression softened into a smile. "Thank you."

"No need to thank me. There would be a special spot in hell with my name on it if I left you there."

Laughing breathily, you shook your head as lightly as possible.

Kaku then turned to Law and nodded dutifully. The raven haired man nodded back and the square nosed man glanced over and offered you one last smile - one hand on your door handle.

"Keep yourself safe."

"And you!" You reciprocated his look and waved as Kaku then left. Man, he was such a nice guy.

Maybe you should say hello to him more often.

Not even seconds after the door clicked shut, Law turned his concentration onto you. Your smile faltered as he stared at you, lips pressed into a fine line and eyebrows knitted. You could feel your heart beginning to drum as he pondered. There was no doubt in your mind that Law would be quick to realise what had happened. That or he would get it out of you pretty swiftly.

"Really, are you okay?"

You were right about thinking this relationship-like bond was a dream; a dream too good to be true. No stalker truly stops watching because another has taken their desired place.

Not until they were locked up and jailed.

Besides, you could still feel those eyes.

Those eyes, those crimson eyes - ruby - they were the ones that watched...

Weren't they?

No, but he wouldn't...

"Yes. Yes I am." You mumbled.

The man lifted an eyebrow ever so briefly. You could see him from the corner of your eye, but you left your head to hang. One of your quivering hands raised up towards your forehead and you gently pressed against it, feeling just how warm it really was.

"The sudden change from cold to hot must've made me dizzy." You lied. Though it was only half a lie. "I think I'm okay now."

"You're paler than usual."

"I'm sure it'll go away." You reasoned, looking up.

Law's steely eyes were looking right back at you. Yet despite how cold they were, they seemed more comforting than any shade of red at the current time. Your heart clenched the more you thought about what was going on. You really didn't want to believe it, but there was too much evidence. You may have been blind to it before, though now you were really beginning to see the whole picture.
