first day

it was the first day of school, all of the heffleys and hardings ran around their houses picking up the things needed. cynthia got ready, opening her curtains once she was dressed and occasionally mouthing things to rodrick.

"kids, we have to go soon!" alison called to alex and robin, knowing cynthia would drive herself.

she brushed her teeth and grabbed her bags and red glasses, throwing them in her car and walking over to the heffleys. she knocked and frank opened, looking angry at everyone in his house.

"cynthia! are you here for rodrick?" frank asked, receiving a quick nod.

"please take him right now i cant do this anymore." frank complained about his son snd called for rodrick.

he ran from upstairs and saw cynthia standing on their porch with her favorite glasses on. his eyes couldnt stop themselves from looking her head to toe before going to her.

"bye!" susan called from the living room.

rodrick took her to his van and she raised and eyebrow, glaring at him and shaking her head.

"what do you mean no?" he was confused.

"first of all im not going in that on the first day. second of all im not riding in the same car as you unless im driving." she explained, taking his hand and dragging him from the van.

her family waved at him and he waved back, walking up to her car and furrowing his eyebrows.

"its so... short."

"get in."

he put his bag in the back and slid in the passenger seat, looking at all of the controls. she turned on music quite different from his as her hands slid across the steering wheel.

"about last night..." rodrick began, immediately being cut off.

"not now rodrick."

"but-"

"not now." she didnt seem excited to talk about it.

they pulled into the parking lot infront of the highschool, turning the music off and grabbing their bags. cynthia stepped out and a group of boys whistled, she could already tell it was going to be a great year.

"why is this car so fucking short?" he groaned out of pure frustration as he got out.

he was 6'2, making it a bit harder compared to her 5'6 frame.

"shut it." she walked to the other side and locked her car, stuffing her keys in her bag and staying close to rodrick as she took off the glasses.

the boys who had whistled earlier whispered to eachother, watching them walk past. rodrick put his arm around her waist and pulled her into his side.

"you're mine, yeah?" he whispered in her ear, sending shivers down her spine.

"you havent asked me out so... no." cynthia wiggled herself from his grip and walked off.

rodrick walked to his friends and they raised their eyebrows as they watched cynthia walk off. they looked back at him and fought back laughs.

"who was that?" one of them asked, crossing his arms.

his body betrayed him and a smile formed on his face.

"thats cynthia harding. my neighbor."

"aww... lucky." another whined.

he scoffed and shook his head, his closest friend noticing the way he seemed different.

"you like her."
